Oh yeah......because original FJ45s have leaf springs and solid axles. I thought death wobble was a coil spring thing?
Again. Can a front suspension develop 'death wobble', yes. It usually comes from lack of maintenance and/or abuse. It isn't exclusive to coil springs or even beam axles, even...
The majority of them. There wouldn't be tens of millions of vehicles on the road with beam axles and coil springs if they all had 'death wobble'. The 80 series Toyota chassis custom FJ45 truck I just got done building doesn't have it. Can a suspension develop death wobble if it is worn out and...
All coil sprung vehicles don't have death wobble.
Businesses are about making money....of course they are going to make them appeal to more people.
You can still get a fairly basic Jeep....just not one with leaf springs and a carb.
It is a novel lightweight idea which is good to see in the market.
My main concerns would be that you can't pull at an angle. That REALLY complicates things. Whenever I get my vehicles genuinely stuck, I am always pulling at an angle with my winch. I am usually trying to pull the vehicle away...
It is a nickle and dime accounting issue. A more rigid track bar and bushing setup helps a ton. It can cause some NVH issues so the OEMs have to balance that out with failure rate.
A few notes in this part.....
The axles are complicated between the JK and JL. The ring and pinion is actually 'smaller' on the JL vs the JK generally, but the pinion stem is larger. I think the JL axle assemblies are better in some ways, but then they had to go and stick the CAD system back in...
Eventually everything gets chewed up if you push it hard enough.
What I laid out fixes the large majority of the issue for basically 'free'
There will be at least 3" more clearance because the thimble is gone ( good )
The hawse will be about 3/4" higher up ( good )
That is still a very good...
1- Delete the dumb thimble. Add a little nylon strap to the original thimble on the winch line. Let that get cut if needed. ($2)
2- Raise the hawse up with an offset design. It is already broken and has to be replaced anyways.
That fixes the majority of the issue without having to drive around...
A little bit, but 3/16" steel in bending that direction is not really that strong. The aluminum cross section would be stronger by a decent margin.
The opening in the steel is also going to always be larger than the hawse opening to prevent the line from rubbing....
Unless you are getting out ever two minutes to look at everything when ever something gets hit or rubs on something you will find some weak links.
I favor fixing the issues instead of driving around them when possible.
My flat fender.....
No support under the hawse at all. Limted support behind the hawse being just some 3/16" steel.
It has never broken......it has also never had a big thimble mounted on it causing funky leverage on the hawse either.
I watched the failures on the Toyota in question...
The best year sales for the TJ platform was about 90k units. The JK and now JL are now doing over 240k units per year.
They are honestly having a hard time keeping up with the demand. I do think this has some impact.
The other interesting thing is that we are getting a completely different...
A few articles starting to pop up...

You know OEMs spend millions and millions of dollars testing this stuff right? I love a good old carb as much as the next guy, I have even invented modifications to make them work better off-road, but electronic fuel injection has been around a long long time now.
Going through the diesel package in a little more detail now that the configuration is online....
You also get the rear limited slip differential included ( a $600 option in other trim packages )
I am also seeing something about 'heavy duty brakes' with 'larger pads' listed.
3.73 gears...
Like what? Heated seats and a subwoofer?
I think a lot of people are just silly without the amount of 'creature comforts' that they 'need' to have on a vehicle these days personally.
I love the idea of a simple JLU without a lot of fluff. I would love to be able to pick and choose a few...
I agree and disagree.
Just changing out the thimble gains over 3" of approach. That is going to solve problems.
The idea I posted above about using an offset hawse to lift it up another 1-2" solves even more issues.
I don't get any 'birdnest' of line when using synthetic when it is stored...
Well equipped how? You can get a sport diesel for under 40K that comes with the Diesel engine, heavy duty 8 speed automatic upgrade ( 8HP75 ), and front and rear Dana 44 axles.
If you want fluffy stuff like a fancy stereo or heated seats, I guess the price could creep up on you.
The Sport...
The dana 35 was never really fine....but....
Most new JL Wranglers get basically a 'dana30' and 'dana35', now slightly different in the AdvanTEK family. You have to buy the limited slip option to get the upgraded 'Dana44' rear axle. The Rubicon package comes with front and rear 'Dana44' axles (...
1. Why is it going to break? A 100ftlbs is going to make the difference to instantly explode the vehicle ever time you touch the accelerator? Just the difference in low range gearing from 2.72 to 4:1 is more than enough to cover the difference in torque between a diesel with the 2.72 case and...
