    Next generation snatch block

The kicker in that testing video is that just wrapping the line around a shackle was even more 'efficient' than the traditional snatch block. UHMWPE is already a really good low friction, basically self lubricating, material against a smooth hard surface like the aluminum of the snatch ring...

The capstan equation would only give you the maximum force ( which would have to be converted to some kind of angular moment ) of what the relationship between the input force and coefficient of friction is. It could be said that the angular force ( ring spinning ) is always going to be LESS...

    Digressive or progressive shocks

It think King and Fox is more linear than anything. That is just the nature of most non-position sensitive shocks that are not being tuned to be 'firm' at slow speeds like the digressive pistons in Bilstein and some Icon stuff.

    Digressive or progressive shocks

The bumpstop typically adds spring rate which has to be dealt with in the rebound valving. It is a balance.

.....I wonder if most snatch blocks on the market use a bushing or a bearing?

I can neither confirm nor deny...but I do live in Colorado.

Ram 2500 gasoline extended gas tank help

The regular cab longbed trucks had a 38 gallon tank and the Excursion had a 44 gallon tank, both with the gas engine. All the emissions equipment looks very very similar.

Ram 2500 gasoline extended gas tank help

Titan can't make gasoline tanks because of EPA emissions regulations.......the tanks would be pretty much exactly like their diesel tanks if they did. ;)

    Project: Doitall Dodge

I'm really interested to see how the round springs work out on this one. I was really impressed with how well my LX45 worked out with the custom valved Fox 2.0 shocks from Accutune. I think this truck will end up getting some nice shocks and stuff in the suspension department. I want to keep it...

    Project: Doitall Dodge

Yup, totally stumbled on this one. It is a few hours north of me. I think it is about as close to what I wanted as I will find without getting crazy. I started out looking for an 06-07 Dodge Diesel along the same lines.....manual, regular cab, lower miles, as much manual stuff as possible, and...

    Project: Doitall Dodge

Thanks. I done used up the Dodge pretty much ( and it was pretty used up before I got it ). It just wasn't worth it to rebuild everything to me. It went to a new home, it didn't owe me anything. I got a LOT of use out of it for what I had invested. This new truck is about as close as you can...

The 'safe' non-moving ( linear) bend radius for Dyneema is about 2-3x diameter to reach maximum MBS

The capstan equation is a hold-force study, not a bearing drag study.

Why was just running the same UHMWPE line around the shackle 180 degrees even less load than the traditional snatch block?

The winch line 'travels' with the ring generally isolating it from wear. Those surfaces typically are not sliding. The wear in the system is to the soft shackle and the ring itself. Eventually those parts might wear out, but I haven't seen it happen yet. There are wear parts in a normal snatch...

    Next generation snatch block

Absolutely, and I have had no evidence of wear and heat being a significant issue. Have you? I agree that in THEORY these could be issues, just not in practical application. I've ton a lot of testing on this concept including multiple full pulls at 8274 winch speeds. I've yet to see any...

    Next generation snatch block

I've never had any evidence that friction has been an issue with the UHMWPE soft shackle on the smooth aluminum in my testing. The coeffecient of frition should be as low as 0.10-0.14-ish in a dynamic application. I spread the bearing load out over both legs of the soft shackle in my design...

    Next generation snatch block

There is a minimum advised bend radius for a moving 'bend' with synthetic lines. That is usually 8-10x diameter with a little wiggle room to go smaller depending on speed. Spreading the bearing load out on the soft shackle is a good thing. I like using the 'improved' soft shackle design with...

    Next generation snatch block

It is an interesting test. Having data is good. I am just not seeing the same thing happen in my testing. I'd love to have a load cell to test this stuff out in a similar manor. I do have some significant differences in how I am setting up and running my snatch rings.
