I found one from a 1-ton Ford RV (for my 1-ton Ford van) for $150.00. It's rusted, but I can paint it to save $400.00. The frames look the same. Hopefully mounting it will be very easy. Near as I can calculate it's a 13 gallon tank too.
The ASME tanks are much thicker than the portable tanks...
Yeah, keep updating the thread please. I have a 2016 Outback and would love to "pimp-it-overland-style".
Did you find that the ADF lift helped with clearing real-life obstacles? My understanding is that it helps with keeping the body panels off of the ground, but there isn't much increase of...
I'll mention one thing that I didn't realize until after I bought a standard-width hardshell. If the tent is narrower than the truck (or car) the ladder is often so close to the doors that a fellows toes will scratch the door paint while climbing the ladder. If you have a shiny car this is a...
You could pay someone to modify (raise) your cab rack so that it matches the rear rack height. Might have the added benefit of leaving enough space under the front rack for things like camp tables, etc.
Then you could slide the tent back to wherever you like it. I wonder if flexing between the...
Ah, I see what you are saying. A hardshell that is 48 X 48 but 48 X 96 when open? There might be a market for that. The worst thing about folding tents is messing around with the cover.
Sounds like it would be a pain to change it out. 11 lbs. isn't going to last for too long if you are running a propane heater in there.
Have you looked at horizontal propane tanks (like for a forklift)? This would not hang down any lower and provide at least 20 lbs. of propane at a time. I had...
I think that if you can build a product like the one in your link and keep under $1000.00 you would do well. Buying "overland" gear is somewhat like buying anything for a Jeep. Price is automatically doubled due to the name.
I would recommend that you DO NOT do custom orders. Invent a couple of...
A lady at Partner said you can order one directly from Partner too...but the price is the same. Partner will charge shipping though (like $35.00 or so). Not sure if OK ships for free.
I sure want one of these rigs. I wonder if AT or Alu Cab will make some sort of topper for the truck bed with a sleeping area over the cab? The one I have in my head would be extremely cool!
This thread got me to thinking about why I bought an RTT. There were two reason. The first was a "bear scare" while backpacking with a hammock, and the second was the very last time I slept in a ground tent. A buddy went backpacking with me in Sept. and we neglected to check the weather report...
I've considered some similar products. They may be simple but are not IMO easy. Flipping a switch and having hot water is simple to me. :) That, and taking a shower at a campsite during March in Montana is going to want a bit more heat than the sun has to offer, LOL.
But, you are right. It...
I looked all that over and it looks good to me. Has anyone happened to do the homework that can identify the proper Pelican box to house this unit? My next step is to figure out if I have an empty space on the outside of the trailer that is large enough (and unused).
A shower will probably be a rare thing when I'm out camping....but if it was easy, then maybe not so rare. I'm one of those OCD weirdos that has to shower every day or I go crazy (which usually means that I will only go camping for one night because of no shower).
There would be no need to run...
