Quick trip to Greenbriar in the GSMNP

I took my dog Zeus and myself to a little section of the Smokies called Greenbriar in Gatlinburg, TN the other day since its right in my back yard. I had just moved back to the area, and was itching to get into the mountains. It was a bit rainy and cold, but I was just fine with that, as it...

March 23, 2009 OK, got some more work done. The rears are finished, except for adding the mudflaps themselves. They are painted though and Im going to give them a few days to cure before putting them together while I wait on the flaps. rear bracket parts finished and painted. how they will...

Quick release mudflaps for all four wheels.

I just thought Id post up my progress of making quick release mud flaps for my Jeep Cherokee in the General Mods section for those who might want to try something similar for any other vehicle. Its nice to be able to keep stuff off the side of the vehicle and out of the inside (when windows are...

    Uni-Body Woes!

OUCH! thats insane! so the cracking of the unibody was making the noise? Or the binding of the CA's or what? Surely someone would have noticed after being under the Jeep replacing the driveshaft or something. Ive never seen that, but wow. You must flex that thing quite a bit!! ha ha.

yes duals from the muffler back...no "wow" needed. They suck...on there when I bought the rig. Where the duals attach to the muffler is rotted out and they arent even physically attached to the back of the muffler anymore. Makes for pretty loud noise. As you can see, the right pipe is higher...

Ok, got some work done on the rear brackets for the mudflaps. Pics: Bottom piece with 2 holes in it is one of the arms that will hold the flap. These two holes will mount to an L-bracket with detent pins, eventually. For right now, since I dont want to drop $25 on pins, Im going to more...

Not just yet. Money is a little tight at the moment, so Im working on smaller things here and there. Unfortunately, the widths and lengths of the rear platform tops are too long to be ripped from one 4' x 8' sheet of plywood which means Im going to have to get two sheets just to make it. I...

So today I started my next modification. Im making quick-disconnect mudflaps for all four wheels. I personally love the look of mudflaps on a rig, and you cant hate the functionality. My tires stick out a bit past the fender flares, so I get mud and rocks flying up into the sides of the XJ...

    The 2drx4 build, a Cherokee.

This is getting insane! Youre an incredibly good fabricator from what I can see, not that you need my approval or anything. But incredible. Keep it up.

    Surco rack question

Yeah adding crossbars would certainly help the base strength of it. I still wouldnt mount anything too heavy like a RTT to the top of the sides though, since they are kind of flimsy. Plus, again, that would add like 12" or more to the height of your vehicle, and since XJs are pretty light...

    Surco rack question

yeah, I wouldnt waste the money on the rack if you want a tent. It might hold the tent, but the top of the rack will be about 6" or so above your roofline, then add the height of the tent to that. Not a good idea....thats a lot of weight way up high. Plus, I just dont think it would be strong...

    Surco rack question

trying to buy or sell one? If youre buying, with all mounting hardware included, thats a good deal to me. Make sure its in good shape though. I will say that I had a Surco, and its very light duty. Itll hold a spare and some other stuff pretty easy, but not a lot of weight. Its bolt...

    Post Pic's of your Jeep

^if you want any kind of streetablility, Id go locker instead of spool...Unless you just dont care!! ha. Plus a spool will suck the life out of your rear tires. Nice ZJ though!

    Triple electric fans?

that is AWESOME! If I only had 400 clams to throw around. ebay has some really cool Jeep stuff nowadays....good find. The ONLY thing I would make sure to find out is if it has the plumbing for the tranny cooler or if you have to buy an aux system and do it that way b/c that would clearly up...
