I wouldn't rely on foam as it will compress as time passes. Use rubber horse mats or 2x pressure treated lumber.

It sounds like in the absence of a miracle there are times it just is not feasible to take your buddy along. If your air can't keep up opening a window and importing really hot air is a no go IMHO. We ended up getting a vehicle to fit the dog, pretty weird huh?

We have a small 12v fan and a reflective cooling shade tarp ( link below). He's housed in a lockable Trans K9 unit. But in reality we turn rear air on and just keep the vehicle running when it's hot. FWIW he's a retired Military Working Dog with 3 deployments to his credit...

My dog is priceless, Me, Meh? Not so much.
