    Diesel GC or Toureg

470 21mpg? LOL maybe being towed by a 2L Jetta. My Sequoia typically does 15-18. Most 470s do 14-15. The 2500 Suburban we had did 20mpg with a tail wind with grandpa doing 5 under the limit.

    1017a camper/tiny house buIld

I have a unpresurized Origo on my boat. Works great. I replaced a pressurized stove, that was a flaming b-ch to deal with. My only complaint is that the fuel options dont have a very good shelf life. We rarely use the stove on the boat so each time I do use it I need to pick up fresh fuel. But...

    Outback vs Volvo XC

Look at a 2010-2014 3.5 Outback nice engine. 2015 the OB got a stiffer sway bar and retuned shocks. 2010-14 they have really flexible soft suspension which is a bit of a turn off on pavement but they are really good off pavement regarding ride quality. You can add a stiffer sway bar easily to...

    Outback vs Volvo XC

My neighbor just replaced her XC with a 2016 OB 2.5 Limited. I have a 2010 2.5 Limited also. Her husband a big dude, was just telling me how surprised they have been about the space in the OB. 2010 and newer the Outback is really roomy and great seating space. 09 and earlier the OB was cramped...

    Diesel GC or Toureg

I know a couple of former towrag owners. I wouldn't touch the Diesel or gasser with a 10ft pole. $2800 to fix a messed up air ride system was a common cost. Two former owners drive newer Land Crushers today. The other guy drives a diesel X5 now. The eco diesel GC sports a much better engine way...

    Why are Sequoia's not included?

Still way more than Rover products shipped over in a couple of containers once a year. ;-)

    Real life MPG numbers wanted.

2.5L 2010 Outback CVT Limited 100% stock. With original 4x6 Lifetime tent trailer and yellow top Costco bins on the trailer 21mpg averages 65-70mph. Add bikes to the roof we run 18ish mpg averages. Same trips sans trailer and bikes 29-30mpg pending head winds and keeping it under 75.

What to replace on 13 year old, low mileage vehicle

Its ok. A family member put 240,000 on his Neon in crappy Indiana. For the right price its a nice option

Better wire for solar panels -> charge controller?

Just as a side note. My 8265 watt system uses 12gauge for a max of 16 285watt panels per 12gauge harness. I think the wire discussion us a tad over heated. Pardon the pun.

    Nissan Baja Camper: advice needed

Fwc shell model. Comes with a bed, roof, door, windows. The rest is just empty space. Lighter weight etc. I think the finch shell is the model. FWC has all the fit info for your truck on their site. Roughly $8000 for the shell model.

    Why are Sequoia's not included?

I've wondered that also. I have a late 06 Limited with 80,000 on the clock.

How high is too high for Tacoma mileage?

The 3.4 is good for 330-350. Bearing failures start to show up after that. All modern the Toyota engines seem to be good for 300k today. Avoid the 3.0 v6 from the early 90s and your good.

    Opinions needed: Xterra, or alternatives?

My 91 was an auto. Suspension was rock solid and easy to check over etc. Cooling was marginal, power was lacking. The 3L v6 was a steaming pile of junk. Litterally.... The manual 3L's had better luck avoiding HG failure, the autos are all either scrapped by now or have been on extensive life...

    Cold Air Intake

Modern vehicles aka fuel injected variety typically have pretty good external intake systems to start with. I always suggest that money is better spent on recovery gear, tire upgrades etc. Hot intakes can reduce power 10-20% and most aftermarket silly intake mods pull air from under the hood...

    To roof rack or not?

I always try to avoid roof gear if I can. Especially with long pavement stretches. The trips without always seem more enjoyable, lower noise, better mileage, no security quickie theft worries etc. There was a great thread a while back discussing how often folks found they needed the Hilift...

The Reality of Handling Trailers in the Back Woods

A trailer with solid strap points at the corners is a big deal. Especially for folks with some rigging skills. Having the ability to strap up a trailer to drag, move or stablize it can really be nice if you get in a bad spot. Not having strong points at the corners can result in limited options...

    Opinions needed: Xterra, or alternatives?

Avoid toyotas first v6 3.0. I had one. Flawed design head vs block surface was inadequate results in a blown head gasket. Both times new heads over $8000 billed back to Toyota. The one pile of steaming garbage to come out of Toyota. If you dont need seating for 4 keep an eye out for a 4.0...

    Sylvan Sport camping trailer

Really expensive for what you get. Look at the Lifetime tent trailer better built, better hauling ability half the cost. 890lbs our older model gets dragged by the 2.5L Outback 21mpg averages with out bikes on the roof 65-70mph. Or go Jumping Jack original, they still sell them. Tent quality is...
