2016 Outback: The Traveler - Long Distance Expo Build

Both my 2.5 Subies saw mileage improvement till about 25,000 miles. The peaks were higher, the lows were higher and the averages were more consistent after they had 25k on the clock. I started to see an obvious trend at around 15,000miles and it seemed to level off at 25,000. So I would expect...

Hadley and Tardis STOLEN, PLEASE HELP LOOK

Just as a side note. Regarding our expensive toys vs the basic vehicle value. I always document my costly toy with the insurer. It has been a good move a few times when damage and or theft has happened. Statefarm cut me a check two days after notifying them. And in the case of damage repair the...

Lite weight campers & RVs. Consumers/customers need to push manufacturers....

I hear Cabellas is going to start carrying Freeze Dried Water for those who need a light weight alternative ;-) My concept of light weight isnt the same as the next guys concept of light weight. Before kids and before the wife, a sleeping bag, lantern, one burner, small backpacking tent and a...

The Mojave to the Eastern Sierra

Odd spot for the Jeep to get stuck. Looks like he left a perfectly drivable road to go off trail Rock Climbing? Not to be a nanny type but thats the sort of stuff that gets roads shut down. Man some of those views you had were awesome.

Advice on finding the right adventure vehicle sub $5000

The short wheelbase thing can make for an exciting ride. Towed around 4000lbs with my 93 LC a few times, not something I would do by design it wasnt an enjoyable trip. It was clear any substandard pavement traction could easily result in a very short and wild ride. It was far more happy in the...

    XPCamper Updates

Lots of experienced taco owners are pretty well spoken about the weight concerns of just about any of the respected fully fitted campers. So Im not sure why that wouldnt be something you were aware of going into it. The really light solo guys seem to do ok and like the setup but they are always...

Family of four, wait five. Looking for the (as close to) ideal camping setup.

I have a huge Kelty screened porch tent also. I found in more remote locations here in the west, you either end up pitched on the parking pad or you need your own D9 dozer to scrape a flat spot big enough for the tent. LOL. Great tent but dang its tough to find a big flat spot for it.

Family of four, wait five. Looking for the (as close to) ideal camping setup.

Three kids vs miles ='s time or lots of night time driving. I have two kids and a grand parent about 1/2 the time so were kinda in the same boat. When were 5 butts in seats we use the Sequoia. When were just 4 we use the Subaru. Our trailer is the original Lifetime Tent trailer. My biggest issue...

Family of four, wait five. Looking for the (as close to) ideal camping setup.

I have a sequoia. Keep it and get smarter about the popup. Most trailers dont like dirt roads to start with. But 3 kids setup and pack to go time becomes a big factor if you even go to start with. #1 fast pack to go, and fast set up ='s higher chance you'll still go camping. Pop up with an...

Anyone use a Autohome Maggiolina Extreme in Southern California? or similar..

Alu-cab just made news they will have gear sold here also. They make an Aluminum tip up roof tent also. Competition in this product range would be good. Its been mentioned that one nice advantage is being able to put things on the top of the alu-cab top.

    Wagonofdoom - 2015 Outback build

That will probably help. With a clean roof I do better mileage averages with the trailer than I do with rack and trailer. My next little project is a 2inch reciever on the trailer for a two bike rack tray. That should help my 18mpg average with bikes on roof vs down behind the trailer. No bikes...

Crossoverlanding Adventures - To Lake Tahoe and Back Again

Nice trip. You missed the Tahoe market best time to pick up a place was around 09-2010. RE values were through the floor. Today they are stupid inflated again. Several friends and family have places up there. Winter time rentals peak newyrs week. After that its hit or miss. Summer is better...

    Wagonofdoom - 2015 Outback build

16mpg? ;-) my 21ft 8.5ft wide racing sailboat was a solid 16mpg at 70mph with a head wind. Full trailer length mode was 27ft then about another 15ft of mast up over the car. 1800lbs all up. No head wind and 55-60mph I saw 18mpg and on rare occasions 21mpg but that was a really sleek enclosed...
