Been eyeing the 320 my self. The deal killer I think is going to be the bad seal design on the turbo and the second seal issue on the cooler. Was yours done on the Mercedes recall? I really like that 3.2 L diesel and the size of the GL. But not crazy about the oil seal issues. Did you dig into that?
The 1500 and the Colorado / Canyon seem to closer in payloads than any full size rigs. I think the Colorado/Canyon even have higher ratings. The Mercedes Metris Minivan out rates the 1500. Kinda sad
1990s powered truck. In all seriousness gas vs diesel you simply purchase fuel from decent sources. Dont purchase fuel off of an old farm truck with rusty 55gallon drums. Make sure you know where the fuel filter is or install one before the engine that you can easily swap out. Take good walking...
Sequoia? Sorta a longer LandCruiser but lacking that $$$$ cruiser level quality. I went from a 93 LC to a 07 Sequoua for the space. Its been a nice rig. Though I rarely drive it, the Subaru is my daily driver and typically our road tripper too.
Just starting to roll into the Bay. Fast mover took 20 minutes to go from blue sky convertable weather to looking for umbrella weather.. We need more snow pack!!!''' Dump baby dump!!
Some of the solar charge controllers can act as your meter in vs out also, thats how I set mine. Though either way works.
The panel temp thing is a pretty big deal vs power generation. One of the big reasons I didnt put a fairing on my the system on our house. I wanted good air flow under the...
Hey Butch as you get your daughter riding, you should find a way to share "best ways to get your kid on the trail". I'm just starting to hit that point and there is like Zero out there regarding good places to go, tricks and tips etc regarding getting the little ones riding dirt with you. Might...
Good friend runs a fleet of boats no one fuels or waters them except a very select few people. ^ for exactly the same points you make. You know what went in the tank and which tank. Nothing like walking out to check on a newbie and see that they just put 800 gallons of water in your sealed bow...
I dont use them not sure. I have a simple 12v hub I put a plug on and just set that up. We can charge 4 usb dohickies and it has two 12sockets on it. Though havent used the sockets yet. But figured I might use some car type device with a socket so bought it.
Best I've done SF -LA was 33mpg in the cvt 2.5L Outback in stupid slow holiday traffic. The Longtrail would probably be ideal. BFG and Michelin I think come out of the same plant both have been really good to us regarding quality, holding up well etc. Wifes new ride would be interesting 2016...
I cant recal was the 08 when they dropped the rear under side full size spare? Due to the urea tank? The 07s I was looking at I think still had full spares under the back. I used a tire gate picked up locally in socal on our Landcruiser for the big spare. That was my plan for the GL if I had...
I almost put the bfg long trail on tye Sequoia, but went the Rugged Terrain path instead. I think the Longtrail would have been good too and more highway friendly. I think the Rugged Terrains cost me 1mpg mileage hit over the crummy Geolanders.
That was why I wanted one also. LOL Bay Area location. I was thinking it would replace the 13mpg LandCruiser and the old Subaru. Final decision was find a clean used Sequoia and get a new Subaru. LOL.
We averaged 16mpg last summer on our 6day trip Virgina Lakes area about 40min north of Mammoth...
Keep in mind that rig gets heavy too. I was looking at those too back in 2012. Got a Sequioa instead. First thing I did was put heavier built tires on it, prior owner had a set of Geolanders on it which were not heavy enough, they wore fast and I had two leaks after one easy gravel road. Hard to...
