Help Me On My Trailer Solar Setup

Before you even map out parts. You need to understand your power needs. My trailer system I targeted an estimated worse case of 8-10ah burn/ use and a typical 4-6ah burn during a 24hr solar cycle. Im on season 2 and its all good. My set up all fits in the 50 caliber ammo box bolted to the...

COOPER DISCOVERER. I wasted $10 000.00 because I listened to my wife.

Ouch. On the flip side I bet there are just as many or more wifes out there with stories of them making big costly mistakes based on their husbands suggestions ;-) But when it comes to basic gear, shoes, tires, clothes it almost always pays to start the trip on quality treads :-)

Old College Kid (re)builds a Camper/Moto Van-1989 Ford EB SMB Penthouse

Interesting note about thr starter design. We had a 85 351 that had starter issues also, if you cranked more than a few turn overs the battery cable would get hot. Lit two on fire actually. I wonder if that okd starter design was the same deal that 85 had? Sounds like you found a good fix!!!

IIHS Crash Tests of 2016 Trucks

When you have young kids you value Life Insurance and crash test performance in your vehicles. Its been a pet peeve of mine for yrs that these trucks continue to really lack the structural stuff all other passenger vehicles typically have today. As a side note all of these are tested empty...

Solar Panel Output - Claimed vs Actual. Add Yours.

Two Renogy 10 watt hard panels 8 watts each in cool, near perfect summer conditions. Amps matter more. 1-1.3 amps combined is typical for the two. 29 LG 285 watt panels. So far peak in ideal conditions Ive seen 230 watts, but they are fixed and not at an ideal angle or ideal south facing...

Looking for a light weight camping trailer

I like the Rpods my self. Though seems like they have lots of quality issues but every RV style camper seems to fall into that category. Id buy used at steep discount knowing its a huge value looser and may need repairs etc. In my case Ive run into a couple of families mom dad and two kids using...

Looking for a light weight camping trailer

Ahh gotcha. House like;-) I've seen some very house like nice pop up campers. That give you lots of space, cabinets and house stuff but you retain the low weight and easy towing. The small hard sided trailers are tough. Iivin lite aluminum hard sided rigs are really nice and light but have a...

Which truck or SUV for a short road trip?

Let me put it this way. I would never put my kid jr driver or my wife with kids in a 4runner, older Pathfinder, older explorer etc given all of them share the narrow, short wheel base high cg nature that makes for a really big handfull in an emergency handling situation. It takes every fiber of...

Which truck or SUV for a short road trip?

In my case tires lifted off while avoiding an accident in progress. 1st time was a gravel truck that crossed 4 lanes of traffic and tried to share my lane with me. The guy behind me after we managed to dodge disaster pulled up and indicated I had day light under two tires and yes I needed a...

Which truck or SUV for a short road trip?

From the aspect of safety regardless of accident risk my big pet peave for a long time was the lack of safety and crash standards being carried over to trucks. But most trucks less than 6yrs old today have pretty high crash standards and carry the same elements as the SUVs.. The new trucks have...

    New Bike Recommendations

One thing is for sure each bike is a unique ride and fit. I still ride my 32yr old bike because its such a great fit and I like its ride quality. Granted its been rebuilt three times. Ha! I just picked up a new MT last yr budget bike but so far its been really good. I like the fit and ride...

Which truck or SUV for a short road trip?

Pickup drivers generally have a bit more respect for speed and handling given most have had slow speed slides happen that got their panties in a bunch at one point. Sure there are pickup accidents but I would put money on it that roll overs are less common and when they do they have avoidable...

Which truck or SUV for a short road trip?

Dogs vs roll overs over the yrs I've come across a couple of accidents and watched one happen. All were SUVs not pickups, and anything not lashed or belted down was strewn across a large area including dogs and passengers. My #1 issue with SUVs are the people who typically drive them like...

    2007 GL320 CDI question

I did a Tahoe off road trip with the Gwagen guys I was in my 07 Sequoia. So the GL lacks the two speed transfer case. Also its longer and longer wheel base like the Sequoia. The Gwagen is more compared to the 4dr jeep in size big difference on the trail, and getting over and around stuff without...

    Frankie's 2008 Mercedes GL320 CDI 4MATIC Adventures

Agreed the MB 3.2 is nice. Just came down to SD on Sunday. The 2.5L 2010 Subaru was showing 31mpg at 420 miles when I took toll road 73. It has some steep canyons. I realized a blutech GL was passing. I was doing a gental 75 that CVT is really shines in the hill country. I was able to hang with...
