Not So Modest 2000 (Gen 2.5) Montero Build

Progress has been a little slow as of late as I've been dealing with other issues on my nicer car that take priority. Still waiting on a few parts including the heater core and other miscellaneous odds and ends for the next stages of the project. Likely will take a few weeks at this rate...

    Se7en62's '99 Montero Gen 2.5 Overland Build & Adventures

Progress like good! I'm likely going I'm a very similar direction with regards to suspension once I get my interior and gearing swap sorted out. Once you have some miles on the suspension, I'd like to get your thoughts on the kit and ride quality. Sent from my LGLS992 using Tapatalk

What are some of the most reliable old vehicles?

The Montero is a great value and very capable. I've two of em now- a 2000 Gen 2.5 and a 2002 Gen 3. Initial purchase price was less than $2000 and each needed (Will need in my recently acquired 2000 Montero) about $2500-$3500 to make reliable and capable. Sent from my LGLS992 using Tapatalk

Not So Modest 2000 (Gen 2.5) Montero Build

Snorkel install part2! The install will require the removal of the fender as it turns out. At least if you are going to install all bolts that fasten the unit to the vehicle. After carefully getting the fitment sorted out with respect to the small bolt holes with template paper and tape-...

Not So Modest 2000 (Gen 2.5) Montero Build

About half way into a snorkel install. Certainly not working at my typical pace with the minor fab stuff, but still enjoying the process. Fitment on the eBay special is 'ok' but not great. Will likely have some tension on it once it's secured fully. Should be ok with some heat I recon. Sent...

Not So Modest 2000 (Gen 2.5) Montero Build

Decided to order a new hvac housing and heater core. Hopefully the company it was ordered from actually has it, as it does appear this part is discontinued from the dealer. As the dash is only loosely in place I plan to remove it and have a shop make the exchange as I honestly am getting weary...

    Monteros on craigslist

The temptation is strong with the red 2.5 gen. Looks really clean and well cared after. Sent from my LGLS992 using Tapatalk

Not So Modest 2000 (Gen 2.5) Montero Build

Its a tight fit, but it works! The filter needs to have two pleats removed and of course, you will need to trim the lower grill supports on the hvac recirculation covers as seen in the pictures. Sent from my LGLS992 using Tapatalk

Still working on the hvac system currently. I'm hopeful to call it 'Good enough' today and plan to reassemble the dash. Here are a few random pictures. Yes- I'm using a wall paper steamer to steam the AC and heater cores. The cleanup is helping and the water coming out of this is pretty bad...

    Am I crazy?

Certainly not crazy to want a different vehicle that better fits your expectations. I've been down that road and built up a car to try to better match my expectations, only to find disappointment. Much happier now that I have vehicles that in passionate about. The gen 1 looks cool and I know...

Not So Modest 2000 (Gen 2.5) Montero Build

Dash has been getting attention over last few days and nearly ready to reinstall. Will be pulling the rest of the HVAC plastic out this week for access to the heater core and AC condenser before everything is reinstalled. Besides a deep cleaning I've insulated the upper hvac ducts and will...

Goldi-Locker gets upgrades. 1999 Montero Build Thread

The build looks good! I have to admit the build has inspired mine a bit. I'll be doing the same type of setup with tire size, lift and protection. How will the 4.9 gearing do with the 33's? Sent from my LGLS992 using Tapatalk

    Soon to be Monty Owner

I second this and am going thru my fair share of elbow grease as a result of a quick decision to buy something quickly. That said, if you wait long enough and with some luck you can find a great deal for a good condition car. Sent from my LGLS992 using Tapatalk

Its still behind the HVAC assembly. Are these known to go bad? Few pictures of the cleaning... Its sooo bad.... Sent from my LGLS992 using Tapatalk

Not So Modest 2000 (Gen 2.5) Montero Build

I'm primarily doing this to clean honestly. Was driving the car the other day and turned the heater on and the smell was unbearable. While I'm here I will clean out the HVAC system and put on a little insulation on the top section to help out the AC. I've done this once before on my old...

Not So Modest 2000 (Gen 2.5) Montero Build

Well- I'm a firm believer of buying a smoke free car now... If you are sensitive to the smell and found a promising car. WALK AWAY. Getting the smell out is a massive undertaking. I'll likely be buying the ozone generator and taking things apart even more to get the smell to a tolerable...

Not So Modest 2000 (Gen 2.5) Montero Build

It was tedious to get things to line up well enough, but having a sharp razor blade and good amount of room to work with really helped. The rear hasn't been trimmed up yet to allow the rear seats to install, but seems like that will be easily accomplished. The front was a good amount of work to...

Not So Modest 2000 (Gen 2.5) Montero Build

The rear carpet was pre cut and included with the molded front section. I was expecting the carpet top have a sewn edge but came as a straight cut piece. Sent from my LGLS992 using Tapatalk

I've not been able to find anything with that's to the Gen 2.5 honestly. If you or anyone else knows of the thread and can post it here- sounds like several of us could stand to benefit from this link. Sent from my LGLS992 using Tapatalk

Not So Modest 2000 (Gen 2.5) Montero Build

Well- after really examining the sun shade and what was involved in the removal of the assembly- decided to just try my hand at cleaning the existing fabric. Plenty of compressed air, fabric cleaning spray (lysol or generic fabreeze of some sort) will be the first treatment... Hopefully a few...
