    Rango.....1942 Willys MB

One step forward two steps back... I was investigating my T18 and ran into a few issues. I did confirm I do have a 6.32:1 version. I have a late model, 77-79 version which has a 1.060" dia, 10-spline input with the long pilot. This will not work with the AA adapter I have. It kinda works, but...

Ok......let the fun start again..... I finally found my newer camera and with some razing from friends am going to try and take better pictures. I also added a light or two to the shop to help with that. This morning I started dissecting my T18 install. First up is the adapter. This is a...

Very cool stuff. On that FJ40 could you flip the tie rod under the steering arm ( keeping it behind the axle ) to tuck it closer to the pinion? Maybe it could buy you a few inches of compression travel before the tie rod would end up in the frame?

New firewall panel welded in place. I was able to get access to about 90 percent of the perimeter. A few places I just couldn't get. Welding to the old sheetmetal in cramped places was a PAIN. I ended up trigger welding a few spots with a little more heat and wire speed to help. Primed and...

Sounds like a fun project. Mine snowballed into a full frame up rebuild because of a blown bearing in the transmission, be careful :)

A bit of progress tonight. Old firewall cut out. New panel made and tack welded in place. I ended up using some 3/16" material since the panel was fairly small and I didn't want it to flex at all! I bolted in the pedal assembly and everything seemed to work out like I wanted. I moved the...

Out with the old.... Notes: -I only had one pain in the *** mistake. I had one motor mount bolt in backwards that got trapped between the drivers side exhaust down pipe and the mount. I had to unbolt the mount from the block, and it was still a pain. -$40 engine tilty hoist thing for the...

Keep an eye out. Are you bringing your flat fender? PM me for a phone number, I am always up for talking jeep over a frosty beverage.

Will do. I had it out in front of the AEV booth last year for a few hours. I grew up pretty close to Missoula and have known Dave H. pretty well for a number of years. He got a kick out of the willys last year, especially the 'highline' stuff :)

Getting closer.... It is almost ready to come out. Now I just need to see how close to balanced I can get it. I should probably pick up one of those tilty engine lift things, but that would take all the fun out of it....

I guess it's time to start Rango 2.0 I think the motor/transmission/transmission will be ready to come out tomorrow or the next day. Everything on the engine is disconnected except the fuel line. I still need to unbolt the exhaust and driveshafts. Then it should be ready to slide out...

Sounds like a solid plan. I can't wait to see a build thread! I like to see new ideas too :) -11.5" wide tires on 10" wide rims might be a little bit of a headache. -I would highly recommend disc brakes -Plan on a small tube front driveline to help clear the reverse bulge on the SM420

Yeah, this is the parts where I tell you its a super big project and I hope your up for it :) The change in the middle section of the frame is optional. As long as your not trying to go for a super flat belly and tuck everything up as much as possible I would just stick with the 4" tall belly...

I totally agree. Having people question why you do things is half the fun... How about a few pictures of your shop? I would love to see how much space you are working out of. In some pictures it looks like a big garage, in others a fairly large shop. You turn out some great quality work that is...

    1. It will be fine. I am just being picky so I can contribute something to the thread ;D. I imagine its working around the cast leaf spring perch that would make it hard? Maybe weld some sleeves to the housing and use a normal bolt? I made welded 'folded plate' style units for my Willys. I had...

I've been trying to get some motivation to get back out into the shop. I didn't want to burn myself out the first day so I tackle 1/2 of a little thing that has been bothering me...... when I raised my front fenders it created a gap on the lower edge of the fender next to the step on the tub...

Old. The battery has been in the truck since I bought it :) I did crank on it for a while.....and it was cold......it just didn't last. I think I may go to two grouped batteries run in parrallel just so I can buy replacement AGM batteries at any auto parts house.......or replacements if they...

Looking good. Why not high clearance u-bolt spring plates in the rear? With a thick springplate like that I would want every inch I could get....and make it as smooth as possible.
