I already have an odd-fire HEI conversion though :) I think I paid $20 for it from the pick and pull.... The only thing that is a pain is getting the distributor in a spot where you can adjust it enough. You have to replace one of the intake bolts with a small button head and grind the corner...

I've been playing around with some mods on my autolite 2100 to hopefully make it work even better.... When I rebuilt the carb I noticed that I had a few different options in the kit for the top cover gasket..... This is the one that fit. Notice the hole at the back of the bowl and the large...

It is drive your Willys to work friday again... I think if I had a transmission and transfer case I trusted more I would drive it to work every day! I think now I am starting to get a lot of the bugs ironed out and its really starting to be enjoyable to drive. Things that I noticed today...

Evening test drive.... Opposite lock drifting on loose gravel around a 180 degree hairpin corner isn't as fun as it sounds......good thing I was going uphill. That little ditch on the outside really slowed me down luckily. A light jeep, big wide tires with a little too much air, a rear...

Thanks. I do like the mechanical nature of a simple carb vehicle BUT it has to work well. Re-learning all that has been tough. You don't find many old school people around anymore to gain knowledge from. I have had to do LOTS of reading, thinking, and tinkering. I am going to run my existing...

Middle of summer, lets talk about snow!

It all depends on snow conditions. With reasonably compactable snow, large tires at LOW air pressures it doesn't really matter how much snow there is. Slope is generally the thing that stops you. You either can stick to the sidehill or can't make it up a steep enough slope. In the right...

Tonight I also got the carb back on the intake and did some retuning.... Lesson learned: If you have a vacuum leak, or even think you do, fix it! With the pesky vacuum leak eliminated under the carb, adapter, and intake I started to tune the carb in again. I am going old school and generally...

I picked up a spare one of these this weekend.... Another 225 odd fire v6 out of a 68 Jeepster.... Nothing like having a complete spare engine to play with!

Thanks. The only section of the inner fenders that I sealed out was the one around the air cleaner. The others I just left open.

I guess its time for an update. Lots of little things..... A piece of coat hanger works really well to keep the manual choke open without a cable :) I have been trying to tune the carb in and I had a feeling that the choke plate was closing under acceleration. Without a cable of any kind it...

Mine is a 'real' Willys MB. The MB/GPW military version of the tub had no tailgate. The later cj2a had a tailgate. With these vehicles being 70 years old now a lot of backyard swapping has taken place over their lives. A lot of MB/GPW versions have had parts replaced like the tub.... Some of...

The past few evenings have been an experiment in sewing. I have an old Japanese made heavy duty small sewing machine so I figured why not try and make a bikini top for the Willys. I need some shade when the sun is out! For $7 in a painters tarp for fabric I learned a lot. I think I...

Today was drive the Willys to work Friday. I have been trying to get some miles on it every week. With it being 90F out it seems to be a fairly good test of the cooling system in the afternoon on the way home. Last night I made a cardboard panel to finish off the top of the transmission...

Thank you. I agree. One of the worst things you can do on a short wheelbase is lift it too much... It is a lot of work to get decent fender clearance, compression travel, and belly clearance with such a large tire, little lift combination but I think its totally worth it!
