Tire setup for winter adventure LR3

There is no argument really. You choose something inferior but you think it's the same. It simply isn't true no matter your experience where ever in the world.

Tire setup for winter adventure LR3

Many states in the US do not allow any studded tires or only during specific date ranges. Traveling through a prohibited state it's often allowable but I'm not sure if a person wouldn't get hassled. There are really only a few zones in the US where a studded tire even makes sense because of...

Tire setup for winter adventure LR3

So exactly how did you determine this? I've actually swapped my wheels and gone back out to test on same surfaces just because I've been curious about various claims and in deciding what to run on a trip. I'm sure the winter tire engineers would be interested in your comparative methods and...

Tire setup for winter adventure LR3

You're implying no shop can order Nokian tires on Newfoundland....? Your signature says something about "inappropriate clothing". Sounds relevant to this discussion. I grew up in MN on about the same St Johns latitude. So where do you spend most of your time? Maybe this is a source for...

Tire setup for winter adventure LR3

I wish, but no, I don't know anything at all about most of the systems on our lr3's. What I do know is the Duratrac simply does not behave like a dedicated winter tire. Is it good enough for what you have done? Apparently it is by your own standards. It's an awesome tire, I used it...

Tire setup for winter adventure LR3

Yes, having grown up in northern MN and traveling there often, I've driven quite a bit during winter on the kind of road conditions you have in Newfoundland, possibly worse due to the temps. I rarely fly the trips. As you can see by looking at a map, there is a lot of geography between the...

Landcruiser 200 Dual Battery Install with Blue Sea Systems 7622

My "Wrangler" system (I think it's called) has worked for over 7 years on the LR3, and about 8 years each on the 1996 and 2004 Discovery vehicles but I really like the looks of what you installed. My primary is an Odessey 1350 and 2nd is the 2150. of note, some interior dome and reading...

Tire setup for winter adventure LR3

"Pretty much" ? Sorry to have to be so direct, but that is total BS. A Duratrtac has no where near the grip on any iced up roadway that a dedicated "hardcore" winter tire will provide.

    Subaru Questions

I'd love to meet up sometime and see this in person. Looks great and the lift sounds solid and very functional.

    Subaru Questions

First, these look very cool and I had an 07 Outback 3.0R. I'm not trying to crap on the Subarus in any way. In fact I really dig them for various reasons. I did like mine a lot but was looking for more refinement, sportier handling plus size so I ended up going the route of less clearance but...

LR3 owners sound off, which tires?

Then again, the very best all around-er for you could be the Nokian Rotiva. VERY good snow properties but also the rest of the year. Kind of what it sounds like Nitto is doing with that EXO Grappler mixing a better winter-ish compound with AT characteristics.

LR3 owners sound off, which tires?

I think you will really appreciate that plan. Where and when you'll be driving a lot you'll get to make good use of them.

    LR3 Navigation Question

my iphone 6 is almost as big but i imagine an iphone 6 plus would be great mounted there ;) There are some mapping apps that should still work when there's no cell tower signal using only gps.

    Lucky8’s Project Discovery 3

Well you know you just have to be more aware of what weight is added and have appropriate springs. I thought the AB kits allowed a choice of medium or heavy duty springs? Maybe not. I don't think it would do too well with what I've had on mine at times though, at least not while also flying...

    LR3 Navigation Question

"going off road" can mean a wide range of things. You can go quite far into some really nasty stuff without 'needing' the rear locker. The system will still do somewhat of a traction control even without it. I suggest specific research on the forum from people who do use it and from the many...

    LR3 Navigation Question

I disagree on the locker issue. The ARB is about $1000 plus a compressor, $300 max for a fast one that could also be used for on board supplemental air. Labor is only few hours according to the shops up here. Considering the rarity of the HD option, it doesn't matter much if it would be nice...

    LR3 Navigation Question

Yes, those are also nice features of the screen interface. The IIDtool showed some functions I saw recently that pertained to plugging in cameras but I do not recall seeing one for the front or more than one. What's the GVIF? Ok, so google says it's "gigabit video interface" Still, how does...

    LR3 Navigation Question

No need for the HD option any more with the locking diffs from ARB now readily available. Drop the nav and use an ipad or other nav which can actually be loaded with much more useful maps and also used for everything else. Again, absolutely no need to "hold out" for one with HD option...

    Lucky8’s Project Discovery 3

Mine are already "relocated" to allow a flattened fender liner but I think more could be done in the wheel well areas. In fact, with the right proportioned 33", they would just about fit as is. There are a couple 265/70x18 coming available which is the right mix of narrow enough for turning...

    Super Budget Expedition Vehicle?

Love the idea, a wagon of course though. Might really not need to lift it but for two reasons I'd want the largest diameter tire it would allow: easy ground clearance without altering suspension/lift, and increased fuel economy at rolling speed. The TDI engine ought to have enough grunt to...
