Just getting back on the bike after recovering from a ruptured Achilles. Don't recommend that, by the way. Here are my rides, just got the 29er hardtail together last month and it rips!
Glad you dig it, and I hope the new owner is enjoying it as well. Maybe Caleb (the original builder) will chime in as well, but from what I know there was a wooden shell that formed the main enclosure for the slide-out. This was bolted to the tub, then the whole thing covered with bed-liner...
Love the idea, we have been planning a similar trip. More of a lead to arrange time off, etc. would be good, and fall or spring are supposed to be the best times for viewing the aurora, but if this really comes together we would try hard to make it.
Nice, thanks for all the responses guys. Just to update the thread, we did end up selling the 4Runner and getting my wife a 2010 Outback with the 2.5 and CVT, but in the meantime I also sold the M416 and bought a used Four Wheel Camper. Plans always in flux! The Outback has been great though...
I have pretty much decided to keep it at this point, unless an offer comes along that I can't refuse. I realized I just have so much time/money/love invested in the 80 that I would probably regret letting it go. That being said, what did you have in mind? It never hurts to talk.

Agree with the previous posters, the remaining issues are fairly minor. Having the head gasket already done is a huge plus in my book, just make sure the mechanic used the updated Toyota gasket in the process.
I don't know if it was an expedition or not, but I just got back from a great trip to Death Valley with my 4" lifted 80 on 315's. Covered about 150 miles off-road and the truck didn't break a sweat. 20 psi makes for a great ride on the washboard!
Thanks for the welcome guys, I'm excited to get this camper dialed in. We had a nice modified M416 with a RTT previously, and wanted to try something more "self-contained" for longer outings in potentially bad weather. Currently planning a trip up through the Yukon to Alaska, maybe fall of...
I'm the very happy new owner of a well-loved 2004 FWC Hawk. Found a deal that was too good to pass up, and now we have this beauty sitting in the side yard:
Sorry for the bad pictures, I'll get some better ones after I have a chance to clean it up and do some needed repairs. Overall its...
I did exactly this with my current 80 - removed the crappy aftermarket alarm which had its own keyless entry system, then plugged in an RS3000 box from a donor 80. There are key fob programming instructions floating around on the web (check ih8mud), just takes a minute. FYI, the RS3000 box and...
I've tried a few different configurations:
-Regular (non-UST) rim and tire with Stan's kit
-Regular rim with "Tubeless Ready" tire and Stan's kit (from what I have gathered, Tubeless Ready means the tire has a UST bead but the sidewall is not fully air-tight, necessitating the use of a sealant)...
I'm definitely no Mudrak (he would be my recommendation if you can arrange the logistics), but know a thing or two about 80's and would be willing to take a look at it for you. Would only cost you a beer! Send me a PM if you want.
