    235/85/16? Let's see them

To each their own. They have done just fine in the snow we've been getting over the past days. Heavy truck and skinny, agressive tires allow me to get through some heavy stuff.

LA(and AZ and SD too) ExPo Death Valley Trip

You're welcome Jim! That trip was the beginning of some great friendships, and really showed the quality of people with everyone that helped Tiffany and I, as well as Adam later on...damn good people. Trevor, thanks for the photo! I hadn't ever seen the photo, and for some reason, it popped...

LA(and AZ and SD too) ExPo Death Valley Trip

For the folks that were on this trip, does anyone have the group photo we took on the top of the rock? It was shortly before we descended into the Striped Butte area. I'd appreciate it if you could post it, or email me. Thanks, Gavin

    The Great White Buffalo

We originally bought the vehicle as our main camping/travel vehicle. With the Pathfinder we have now, and the Chinook being built, we have all our bases covered for travel and trips. I'll be looking for an AWD wagon, like a Scooby, as the replacement. It has been a great vehicle taking us on...

FJ80 Cargo Barrier - Homemade and very incomplete

Well, this project never made it past bent metal, and with the GWB on the chopping block, I have no use for it. I had a local shop make this up for me based on my template...should fit any 80 series. It is meant to mount behind the 2nd row of seats, and go from the top of the seat back, to the...

    235/85/16? Let's see them

TreadWright MTs on my 80 series: I also ran BFG AT 235s on my old WJ. Unless I get a killer deal on other tires, this size will be the one I run for a long time.

Bringing this thread back to the top as it was the topic of my thoughts today. Jess, has this kit worked for you? changed anything? Anyone else carry something as comprehensive?

    1977 Chinook Questions

The frames are different in that they were specially built for RV purposes. On Chinooks, the rear area the is a step down in the camper, is supported by a completely separate, bolt on frame section. This frame section supports the bumper area as well. See the pic below from Oleg's build: You...

    The Dwarf Forest Buffalo

Well, I found a good 1979 4x4 truck to put the Chinook on...damn cheap too! For the time being, I'll stick with the stock engine and everything else, do some PM, and start using the thing. The 3RZ will come later on in life.

    The Dwarf Forest Buffalo

The interior is now gutted! I'll do my own custom layout as we do not need all the creature comforts in the camper portion. During the removal process, I found lots of pack rat poop, snake moltings, some old tools, a rusted out swiss army type knife, and all the original service manuals and O&M...

    Expeditions West: FZJ80 Land Cruiser

Those are called Trim Packers. The OME springs are longer one side to the other, so there are used to level the vehicle out, or in some cases, to provide just a bit more lift on the driver's side due to the continual added weight.

    The Dwarf Forest Buffalo

Bogo, Thanks for the heads up on the axle information; I hadnt seen that on the motorhome site yet. I will be removing the current rear axle to change it to a 6 lug style to match the front, unless I go with a non-toyota set-up, which is not what I intend. It would be nice to find a set of LC...

Stu, Much appreciated, I proud of the solution too! And yes, there are two of them, rated at 1000 pounds each; I think they are sufficient.

    The Dwarf Forest Buffalo

With a kitchen remodel that had to be finished before Thanksgiving, and some other pressing issues, it took me a bit to get the pictures, but here they are: Exterior: Driver's rear(no pun): Passenger Rear: Towards the cab: Table: Fridge, Stove and sink: Towards the rear: This is...

    The Dwarf Forest Buffalo

Got it home yesterday, and off the trailer this morning. I thought of a pretty good way to get the front rolling...can you spot it? Also, shameless plug for the Bushranger X-Jack from Sierra Expeditions. The jack made some quick, safe work of lifting the vehicle.

    The Dwarf Forest Buffalo

It will be 4wd...it isnt currently. I'm not sure which way I'll go with it...could be truck based, or UV based. For engines, I may go for a 2rz or 3rz 4 cylinder, or may go the Atlas 3.7/4.2 I5/I6 route from a TrailVoy. I honestly have no clue, this is a blank canvas, and for $250, it is an...
