Overland Journal Project Land Rover Discovery 4 (LR4)

Looking good. If it weren't for my irrational worry over air suspension out in the boonies, I'd be considering an LR4 to move my kit over to soon. It is obviously seen there having the 18" factory wheels. Did you already post how this was achieved?

Looking for a definitive answer - will 18" rims fit on an '09 G55 AMG?

No, I don't think most people on BW are going to understand why someone with a G55k would want to get smaller wheels or what the larger tire sizes are that will fit for off road use. Benzworld is a perfect resource for getting opinions on new 22's or making a 2003 look like a 2011 ;)

Looking for a definitive answer - will 18" rims fit on an '09 G55 AMG?

actually, the OP's build is that of mild "expedition" level and thus his post perfectly relevant. l would think that generous sharing of information can only lead to a better community in general rather than telling someone to "piss off" just because their idea of worthwhile vehicle use does...

you should consider the E range LT275/65R18 Goodyear Duratrac. It is more aggressive than the classic BFG but will fit like you are used to with minor rub issues.

SWEET set up. I did not realize the FR tire carrier was nicely offset toward the middle, as per my groaning and complaining earlier regarding the other brands. I like it! Do you realize you are saving roughly 250 lbs by not having either bumper in steel? Question, and photo or link...

    Parasitic drain on battery? LR3

    A. the lr3 has a feature called "hunting" or something regarding the interior lights that come on when a door is open - this feature when engaged, keeps all the lights off upon opening of any door. You can still reach up and turn one on and I strongly suggest use of this feature but also only...

I don't think so. Not unless they changed them and your weigh 125 lbs each accounting for 25% more steel. They are, like most aftermarket steel parts, 3/16". I bet the front end of your lr looks sweet with the hidden winch mount and it's better handling with less weight up front not having a...

I bet a little goolging would return useful results for the basic weight of AL vs Mild Steel. Then all you need to do is know the weight of one or just ballpark that weight. I can tell you that my Rover Specialties sliders at steel and weigh about exactly 100 lbs each side. Yes, 100 LBS EACH...

I'll be interested to hear how you feel driving one and then the other. There are certainly pros and cons between them depending on your uses and needs and simple personal preferences. I recently read the G55 brakes are 13.8" and so are the very latest 2013 G63. EDIT: new 2013 G63 front...

I have the 2 aluminum front plates and radiator guards from Rasta. They also made a nice trim fitting sill guard. There are also others brands and designs though most are steel.

Sorry, what I was getting at is not so much left or right on the tire, I also prefer right seeing as the opener is left. However, I find it silly they flipped the window dip/bump. I found it useful backing up because even though the vehicle is tall and long, you could still see right out onto...

    Diesel LC spotted in Colorado

The dual tire carrier is fine enough but the really cool bit is the 2nd fuel tank. Mine looks almost identical.

Please understand, I just find some of what we are offered to be very frustrating. It is nothing personal about where one person wants to put this or that. It (the tire swing arm) is like this on almost every one out there including mine. There are only 2 choices on the back really, and the...

You sound like you were appointed the Land Rover Design PR man ;) This Placement of the tire fully blocking the right rear lights is ridiculous. If you want to keep preaching "details make the difference", well then, the detail of the Kaymar wheel placement is awful. Want to use "heritage" as...

Anybody here ever gone from an LR 3/4 to a 200 series Land Cruiser?

I agree with your last bit about longevity however on the course, the RR likely had factory/street tires? Not exactly a fair comparison with you running real tires. From what I have read, the new RR has a lot more wheel articulation than previously and the actually continuous ground clearance...

Land Cruiser converts, please weigh in on your post-conversion thoughts

Correction: The G "looks tall" because it is in fact taller. The flat slab sides only add to its already 4-5" taller height. The other thing is that the roof being nearly flat, you don't see the roof taper into it's height like on the LC. The G height is fully right there in your face. So...
