You solved your own problem with the last sentence in your quote above.... There is NO reason that properly prepared and cured powder would "chip so easily"... it is very resilient finish and you can even do a "super tough" version for higher abrasion and chipping resistance. I have a mountain...
I am probably in the minority here but I despise anything pop up or soft sided for sleeping.... Yes its nice to have the breeze blowing through while cooking or having a beer or watching a storm but the flapping and wind and insulation side of things just dont add up for me.. Now I obviously...
factory driveline issue or 4WD conversion issue?
Making a 2wd truck into a 4wd is not an engineering marvel. I am quite surprised to hear that none of the companies you worked with could solve the problem.
Was this one of Darrin's trucks?
interesting project for sure.
For the travel plans that you have, a NEW truck of any kind is a poor foundation IMO... Buy a 10-15 year old Superduty, save 40 grand or more. Very easy to do things like frame extensions or reinforcements, heavier axles with lockers, etc. No concern with...
IMO the key for "stealth camping" is to simply blend in with your surroundings. An NPR box van, a Sprinter Van or a "Snap On" van would blend in almost anywhere. Why worry about stealth when you have security through obscurity?
Park in a shopping center, a school or church, a motel parking lot...
quick inflation and deflation can be accomplished by using Agricultural valve stems which are quite a bit larger than traditional Schrader valve stems. A matching air chuck will be needed. Powertank sells what they call Monster Valves: http://www.powertank.com/products/sfID1/15 that are...
Pretty sure that 304 were available with a diesel from the factory. The gas/petrol motors are dogs for power according to a guy I met at OvEx 2012. He could only do 50-55 mph top speed with his loaded and pulling a small trailer and it took a while to get there.
Diesel would certainly be...
Unless you swap a rear axle out, you will only have one wheel drive. There are no lockers that I am aware of for the Fuso or NPR in America, though you may be able to get something out of Oz.
Would not feel comfortable with much over a dirt road without at least adding a locker. A winch with...
doubt seriously that little fiberglass pop up camper is up to the task of anything other than a pot holed paved road.
Saw this rig at OvEX and very disappointed. Looked at Earthcruiser too and theirs is very nice, but not for 225,000 dollars.
There should be something in the middle IMO, a...

or POR15 (if you have that in Oz)
if not, it converts any existing rust and prevents new but its a pretty nasty undercoating and wont come off so be careful what you get it on.
The Hino 500 is about the same cab size as the Isuzu FTR (USA 1996-2007) and is about a foot wider at the beltline than an FE/FG84.
Hard to tell on the interior cab height as the larger Hino and MAN trucks sit on much larger tires in stock form. Would love to have a 500 in 4WD and crew cab...
I assume that you are wanting to build something similar to this:

With a true 35" tire, Aisin 6 speed (.634 OD) and 4.55 rear end, the math says top speed of 92 mph at 2550 rpm.
Only driven one empty and stock, but you should be able to cruise at 65-70 mph without any issues.
There are new white crew cabs at a dealer 10 minutes from me. If you are interested...
