Yeah. I should use a torque wrench. I do about the differentials pretty frequently, especially before I raised the axle breathers. (Stock, installed arb cover, hit cover causing leak, high water crossing).
After 4 off roading trips without doing maintenance, I spent the weekend changing fluids and retorquing bolts. Anyone else used lube lockers on their diff covers? I switched the front diff seal to a lube locker from the liquid gasket. The bottom bolts were weeping some gear oil. I'm hoping I can...
Trying to keep getting back out there during this shoulder season. I think we found the real super bloom this year. I'd love to go back when the area isn't filled with Priuses. Lots more to explore.
Thanks! I got a new camera lens that made a big difference. It was too many trails in one day. But there isn't anywhere you really want to stop and hang out in Anza borrego. Paul engineers telescopes for a living. So he gave us a private tour of the Palomar Observatory where he used to work on...
Texas is probably like the low desert here. Hot, dry, dusty, and windy as hell. It's not my favorite unless you have your secret camping spots staked out. But less things to cave your door in on than the forest.
Now you've seen all the instagram posts to come. lol
We headed down to Anza to check out the second half of this bloom. Much greener and more colorful than usual. And definitely more people than usual. People were camped everywhere. It took 3 water crossings and a boulder strewn hill climb to stop the Civics and Prius from getting farther down...
I got it last fall. The soft top was fun in the summer but it was a pain to fold back or down. And I didn't feel secure leaving it parked in the woods while I hike, or street parked in the city with my gear and tools in it. The sunrider has been an awesome in between. This is actually my second...
Washed and waxed. Only a few pin stripes remain.
Also added a grounding strap from the Aev tire carrier retention bolt to a bolt on the frame. The idea is to improve the ham reception. I'm not sure the tire carrier was grounded to the frame since it slots into brass bushings covered in grease...
Found a good deal on craigslist and finally decided to pull the trigger on replacing the carpet with something that won't retain as much dog hair. Pulled all the carpet, cleaned out all the dust and gravel under the carpeting and installed a full set of BedRug's BedTred. It's a bedliner-like...
Yeah they do have a heavy duty power steering box. I think it's not cheap though. Gotta kill another stock one first. It'll really just depend on how long I plan to keep this jeep. With the JL pickup at least 3 years away, it's looking like I'll have this jeep for awhile. Might become my...
I don't mine scraping, but I'd rather not if I don't have to ;) I need to replace the OEM skid on that and the evap cannister soon. I've still yet to hit the evap can. But the gas tank is taking a beating.
Modding for 37s is a whole other issue. I was going to do the big brake kit, regear, and...
Thanks Jeff. That was always my intention: As stock as possible as modified as necessary. And I'm one of the few people that quite like the stock look vs wanting to modify everything.
The build will follow that mantra but I'm not sure which direction to take it. If the new JL looks lame, I'll...
