"Bruce" the 2014 Jeep JKUR Build Thread

Bruce finally got some big boy tires. I decided to go with the 35x12.5r17 BFG AT KO2s for a host of reasons thoroughly discussed in previous posts. I'm glad I did. The size seems about perfect for my AEV 3.5 SC suspension. My Jeep always tends to be a little lower than others with the same lift...

Long Way to Moab (Canyonlands, Lockhart & Beef Basin, Utah) - Oct 2007

Hi Kurt, As Zack told you, we're planning a very similar trip from Mexican Hat to Moab for either this October or next Spring. I'd love your input on turning the "route into an itinerary." Would also love if you could join.

    That's what I'd do to run 37s also. That's why I'm going with 35s ;)

Sleep solo in my JKU next to ARB fridge? Or buy a nice tent?

It's not too bad. I put my fridge on top of the 40% folded seat. Luckily it's very quiet. I slide the passenger seat all the way forward and fold down the rear seat. You can fill in the gap between the cargo area and folded seat with a towel. It's still not flat, but it works. What I did is...

    Overland Journal: G-Wagen

Have you had any experience with the self healing clear wraps like Xpel or 3Ms clear bra? I wonder if they have the same issues. I've been considering it for the doors on my dark grey rubicon or when looking at black G500s for my wife.

"Bruce" the 2014 Jeep JKUR Build Thread

I looked at Toyo open country RT tires tonight. They seem pretty nice. Too bad they're still pretty heavy. Another interesting idea someone shared with me is running Toyo Rt/MT tires in 285/75r18. You'd need an 18" wheel but they're effectively 35x11.5" tires. And are actually taller than 35"...

But what were you guys getting when you were running the 35" duratracs? Same or better? Seems like this needs to be solved with a good old fashioned drag race. Now to find two similar jeeps with 4.10s. One on 35" ko2s and one with 37s. In theory that is true if they had the same weight and...

"Bruce" the 2014 Jeep JKUR Build Thread

I get about 18 highway with stock tires and 4.10 gears. Probably due to being slightly over geared and the KMs rolling resistance. But it's refreshing coming from the 6500lb 100-series on 33.5s with 4.3 gearing.

Why'd you decide on Teraflex when the Mopar kit is cheaper and OEM?

At this rate I'll end up with 37s, 4.56 gearing, a prorock44 up front, 4.5" lift and a moose big brake kit. As long as we're still talking about emotional decisions, I could just go with my original desire and get the 35" KM2s. The proportions look about perfect IMHO. Who cares if they're loud...

"Bruce" the 2014 Jeep JKUR Build Thread

That's what I'm worried about. Every time if gone smaller than I wanted for the sake of practicality, I've ended up getting the higher thing 6mos later. But I've also gone too far with mods and regretted it. But there are way more pros in the 35s column. One thing I hated about my...

But still debating between 35s and 37-inch KO2s. $200 price difference. Wondering if 37s (35.5 x 12.5") would cause problems on stock rims with Spidertrax Spacers. I'm assuming the gearing wouldn't be any worse than those running Toyos or other true to size 35s with 4.11 gearing. I prefer the...

Any idea when AEV plans to support the new models? I'd like to save some time and go AEV turnkey with the next model.

Cheapest price I've found is on Amazon. Free shipping, no tax and 5% off with my Amazon store card. They even have prearranged installation pricing at local tire shops. Gonna give that a try and place the order on next month's billing cycle.

I used American/discount tires for my land cruiser but I was under the impression that they wouldn't mount into stock rims and I think someone else beat me to the pintlers. I'll check with my local one. If not, 4wheelparts might honor their old price and have a no sales tax deal right now.

Thank you! What can you do to bee up the power steering short of hydro assist? Other than 4.10 gearing being less than ideal for 37s, the brakes would be lacking. But the brakes are already lacking. So I wouldn't mind switching to the molar big brake kit, even if I kept 32s. Tire size is tough...

"Bruce" the 2014 Jeep JKUR Build Thread

NMBR was saying running the 37" KO2s put a lot of strain on his power steering, and maybe not related, but it bent his front axle over the year he tested them. I'm thinking for a daily driven, overland centric JK, 35's are the smart choice. Especially since I ordered the 4:11 gears for them. And...
