Photos of the insides on our two vans were requested, and Tom added some photos of the inside of his van and.. I forgot...
I thought of it last week when I had my van and my camera, so here are some photos. It's a basic SMB RB50 floor plan interior. I deleted the propane option and added the...
A tale of two vans' travels: Owyhee
The Owyhee area of southeast Oregon is one of my favorite places to escape to. Tom, Keith, and I were there in May 2014. Picking the right time to go is a little tricky, as it's a full two day drive from where we live so we can't just stop by and see how the...
T.Low's Astro on Crankshaft hill.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4gHNWUSQPUU&feature=youtu.be
The photo I posted earlier of Tom looking under the front of his van was at the top of this hill. A steering arm broke on this climb. We strapped it together with two ratchet straps and he not only...
A tale of two vans' travels: Moab area
The Moab, Utah area is a popular 4x4 destination and if you have been there it's obvious as to why. There are tons of roads and trails to explore, great weather, and the amazing red rock scenery. Tom and I and friends Keith and Cindy went there in April 2013.

Geoff, Great to hear from you! Very long time no see! If you want to compare notes on places reasonably close to Seattle to explore, just let me know. Hard to believe your photo from the SMB rally trip was 9 years ago!
A tale of two vans' travels:
Tom loves all kinds of vans. If you own a van, Tom wants to talk to you.
A favorite camp spot that has been a repeat location several times.
When you take a van to places far beyond where GM designed it to go, you sometimes find the yield limits of parts...
Thanks!
Random thoughts on comparing the two vans: If you are gonna use a 4x4 van as a daily driver, the Astro will be much more comfortable in most cases. The 1/2 ton Astro suspension rides much softer than the 1 ton straight axle under my SMB. Riding in Tom's Astro feels like a Caddy to me...
I'm just back home from a long weekend visiting family to find this thread and the awesome replies from folks. I'm gonna throw a few photos of Tom and I traveling up here for now, and hope to get time soon to add more photos and some words to go with them.
One thought for now: Never mind what...
I've had a Thetford PortaPotty in my van for 8 years and love it. I use the tablet chemicals and it does not smell. Mine was the battery powered pump version but the pump died. I tried to find parts to replace it with a manual pump but couldn't figure out which pump to use. I now use a cup...
