They can make a vehicle very tipsy if used improperly. I’d never put myself under an axle being supported by one.
That being said they have MANY more uses than a floor jack.
Hi Lift is a brand, they’re more widely known as ‘farm jacks’.
As a jack it looks great for gravel.
To be clear I’m not knocking the jacks themselves, but more the trend and marketing angle of lugging them around on the back of a $3,000 swing-out bumper as if their usefulness actually justifies it.
I always keep the tailgate, but I use my trucks as a trucks pretty frequently.
Reconsider the swingout bumper, seems silly when you have a pickup bed. My Tundra fit a 35" tire in the factory spare well. If I recall I had to modify something, but that was a while ago. Swingout bumpers are...
True, there is actual use for this in a race where every second counts. That's a very small market, but one that would inspire a lot of folks to "look cool".
Call me crazy, but form follows function. I just don't see the function.
Sidenote, my buddy raced king of hammers in a Miata and...
Yeah everything will sink into the ground. If you're in that kind of terrain though, it seems reasonable to just relocated the vehicle before pulling the flat tire off, or use a floormat, skid plate, rock... there are many ways to spread the load out that a rolling floor jack doesn't make up...
Is this really something people are doing? Seems like a whole new level of useless crap/dead weight for mall crawlers.
I know we are all gear dorks to some degree, but really? I've off-roaded a lot of places with a lot of 35" tires, had plenty of flats in precarious terrain... and I have...
Yotawerx just released dyno charts on their tune for Doug Thorley LT headers;
Stock 2UZ; 216 HP / 250 TQ
+DTH/Y-Pipe; 226 HP / 265 TQ (+10 HP, +15 TQ)
+DTH/Y-pipe/LT Tune; 249 HP / 297 TQ (+33 HP, +47 TQ)
Impressive numbers I can only verify via butt dyno, as I have this setup. Drives...
If I recall the ARB weighs about 60-80 lbs more than the Ironman bumper. The mounting reinforcement is better, twice as thick, and it has built in recovery points. This is a case where you do get what you pay for.
The LFD bumper on my last GX mounted similarly to the Ironman, and it bent my...
I have a R4T rear bumper and a bison gear tailgate tire mount. I had a dual swingout bumper on my last GX and hated it. Would not buy one again. Makes it a pain in the ass to get to your cargo area. Also the prices are absurd for one of those, you don't get much out of it that you can't get...
Yes, we're talking about trucks in the American sense. Comparing a Honda Ridgeline to a Tundra is silly and your scruples are questionable at best. Having exterior cargo space does not make a vehicle a truck in the American sense. The Ridgeline is closer to a Highlander with a big open trunk...
The pinnacle of perfect truck to me is an 01-04 Tundra SR5 long bed, reg cab, 4x4 v8, automatic, in white. I had one with 330k on it. It’s the only vehicle in a long list that I regret selling.
Reliability isn't a category we were debating. We're in a Toyota/Lexus sub-forum...
While we are on the topic though, I do find it humorous that Toyota not only managed to build the most reliable truck ever, but they built it right here in the US utilizing non-UAW labor. I'm not anti-union...
I can't say with experience, as I'd never buy their stuff in the first place, but the differences I see are cheesy marketing/branding, perpetual year round "20% off sales", and seemingly cheaper materials. Not exactly a Harbor Freight business model, but not far off.
I didn't know they crash...
