    Herbie's Chevy Astrolander/ZMB Build Thread

Cool! Yeah, cutting open the roof on a good van is an act of faith! I cut in a sun roof on a van I had in the '80's. Standing on the roof with a drill and sawzall, I was thinking, "Am I really gonna do this? Check measurements twice, maybe three times, cut once"... Nice that you have a full size...

    WTB: Civic AWD Wagon

I love those little rigs! When I had a '90 CRXsi I thought, if this car ever gets wrecked, I'm gonna stick the motor in an AWD wagon... Wish I would've done it! Brian Rutherford

Hey Herbie, It was great meeting you tonight! I won't spill the beans, but you got a heck of a deal! Come on back when you are finished and we'll get three vans (T.Low's too) out on the road! Thanks for dinner too! Brian

    Our "new" Tiger...

Nice! How about maybe outlining the black with an 1/8" red or orange pinstripe? It would look more finished up close and hardly change the look at a distance. I'm curious what was done to the chassis when they cut the van body off and built the "RV" body? Is it reinforced? Brian

    Random dog shots

Thanks for your thoughts and support everyone. It's very hard to lose him and he is greatly missed, but it helps me to know he lived a long, healthy and often spoiled life. We should all be so lucky. To all my fellow dog lovers, give your dog a big hug tonight... Brian

That photo of the dashboard just made me homesick... Wish I still had mine just to mess with. Great simple rugged rigs. Brian Rutherford

    Sportsmobile for a family?

Just in case you hadn't seen these, here's the SMB webpage for the Standard Plans for the EB and the Do It Yourself page too. At the bottom of the DIY page is a link to an "Online Design Center" where you can play with your own layout ideas. http://www.sportsmobile.com/1_std-eb-plans.html...

Expo style TV/Film production van I spotted.

Found it: http://www.ambientdsr.com/ The website front page used to have an interactive "walk around" of the van but it's not there now. Brian Rutherford

Expo style TV/Film production van I spotted.

Looks a lot like the SMB van Ambient Digital had made for remote production work, but I can't find photos of it right now. It used to be featured on their website main page. Brian Rutherford

    Herbie's Chevy Astrolander/ZMB Build Thread

A PortaPotty in a van is a great thing for women camping, and, I gotta say, I am spoiled by it too. I thought I would hardly ever use it, but I do often. Not having to go outside at night is great. I have used it in cities too where I can't find an easy place to stop and pee. Just pull over...

    Herbie's Chevy Astrolander/ZMB Build Thread

Hi, Cool project. I'm a friend of T.Low's and a SMB owner. Having driven Tom's Rastro van, it rides like a Caddy and corners like a sports car compared to my 4x4 SMB. The 4x4 SMB really is, and drives like, a 1 ton truck. Off road the Astro seems to work well on rough roads, and easy trails...

    Question of the year

I've had a 90 Suburban 4x4 and used it for camping, and I loved it but we were only 2 people on board. For 7 people, I'd vote for a long body van with 4x4. The CUBIC capacity inside is HUGE. Two rows of bench seats and you still have lots of room in back, and with that tall ceiling, you can...

    Hi and question

I have considered them but still don't know much about them. I know a boss of mine had one 15 years ago, and loved it but had a head gasket blow at fairly low miles. And I recall one of the 4x4 mags had a write up on them many years ago and gave them pretty high marks, taking into account it's a...

Pull Pal on Aluminess rear bumper swing arms

Fine by me. I was thinking of passing along photos to him in case people asked him to mount one, he could choose to use this idea or not. He has already done something similar. The left hand swing arm, with the main body of the Pull Pal on it, is mounted in much the same way as another SMB...
