    rtt vs slide in camper

When I weigh the truck and do the math... my current 2010 Tundra has more ‘legal’ payload than my 2000 F250 did. By 400 lbs. The Ford would haul way over GVWR and noT complain though.. just broke down often.

    2004 Tundra Adventure Cab - Build/Adventure Thread

No need to make excuses, you’ll find a lot of benefits to the Tundra over a Taco. For starters, you won’t be like everyone else. Tacos are pretty “basic”, kind of like Jeeps. Everybody has one. That 4.7 v8 is easily a 500k mile engine. Just keep up on the timing belt changes. Your...

    Four Wheel Camper ‘Project M’

After seeing them both in person next to each other, the AT Overland Atlas seems far superior to the Project M to me.

Why are other full size SUV's not used in overlanding/offroading as often as Forerunner/Landcruiser?

Love it! Also, I grew up in Ohio and ALL TRUCKS RUST! There are just as many rotted out Fords and Chevies in the rust belt as there are Toyotas. The Toyotas just run longer. 200-300k worth of road salt will do WAY more damage than a a vehicle with 5 digit odometer will EVER see.

Why are other full size SUV's not used in overlanding/offroading as often as Forerunner/Landcruiser?

I would wager that he either trashed it, or it had 300k+ miles before needing that service. Yes your sloppy domestic axle bearings will fall right out easily in 15 minutes. That's only a good thing if you like replacing them every other weekend. I have another true story; used to work with a...

    2nd Gen 4Runner

I recently switched up all my vehicles and got automatics after 20+ years of never owning one. I don't miss driving manual at all! Ha.

Suggestions for Toyota Tundra modifications for suspension and wheels/tire

Depends where you are. In Denver they are all expensive. You'll need an alignment too. Full truck suspension will likely start at $2500 installed, but not for a nice King or BP51 setup, more like low-mid grade. For the good stuff you are looking at $5k+ installed. You can DIY for much less...

Old Man Emu - Tundra Lift - 2"? More like 4"!

Will do. I don't normally do "build" threads but I guess this can be one.

    8' 2007+ Tundra Softopper - Tan - Barely used

Purchased in February this year. I used this on two weekend trips. Otherwise it has been off of the truck and stored. Has the front/rear windows, accessory screen, as well as the black storage bag and I probably have the receipt somewhere too. Paid close to $1k. This is for a REAL full-size...

Old Man Emu - Tundra Lift - 2"? More like 4"!

Agreed, I'll wait it out. Just picked up a 2000 Tundra TRD for my Dad last weekend. 70k miles. Love those trucks, I'd prefer one over the 2007+ to be honest. So damn hard to find RCLB 4x4 with the 04+ higher power motor though!

Old Man Emu - Tundra Lift - 2"? More like 4"!

I'm heading to Jackson WY tomorrow to pick up my FWC. Hopefully the 500 mile ride back with that weight will settle them a bit.

    rtt vs slide in camper

What was it used for? Work truck? Run away. Leaf springs up front or coils? Both have their advantages. Probably does not have the forged rods like the earlier 7.3s - are you tuning it up? The later 7.3s aren't as sturdy after 400 HP or so. Would seeing all my Ford repair receipts help...

    rtt vs slide in camper

The only issue is tank size. Most Tundras have a 26 gallon tank, of which, 20-21 gallons is actually useful before fill up is required. Later models are available with a 38 gallon tank as well, which would be nice. Mine has the 26. I just carry 10 gallons of extra fuel if I think I'll need...

Old Man Emu - Tundra Lift - 2"? More like 4"!

Good to know they can settle that much. I just ordered an Expedition One rear swing out bumper too. Maybe we will ride close to flat after all. Spending a lot of money this week...

I hear ya, Tundras are ugly as piss but I like to think form follows function. Good luck!

Old Man Emu - Tundra Lift - 2"? More like 4"!

Weight difference is likely 800 LBS or so, but in the middle... not over the axle. So maybe half that? I know my payload is about 800 lbs more than a double cab, so it would make sense that the double cab is 800 lbs heavier. Front suspension is the OME 3" lift, probably settled out to more...

    rtt vs slide in camper

I've owned several different RTTs and several different slide in campers. I am picking up a FWC Grandby this weekend for my current build. For RTT hard-shell is the way to go (Baroud or Autohome, not the new Chinese generic ones) Softshell RTTs are great for the occasional weekend, but they...

Old Man Emu - Tundra Lift - 2"? More like 4"!

I just installed the OME leaf springs in the rear, as I am picking up a Four Wheel Camper Grandby Shell this weekend (Regular cab, long bed truck) This lift is supposed to provide 60mm (2.25"~) of lift. It actually gave me 4.25" of lift. I'm a little upset about it, frankly, it's too much...

I’ll take a rusty reliable Toyota over a clean shiny Ford any day of the week.
