The montero cigarette lighter/auxiliary power outlets have fusible links built in them. Remove and replace.

Quick follow up. The montero is still running strong. Just got back from a 2600 mile round trip with a fully loaded truck and a loaded 5x7 trailer. Pulled 300 miles to a tank. That's with a dent in the tank lowering the cap by about a gallon. Only thing that went wrong was the drivers window...
Last week, I replaced the driver side upper control arm(complete with new ball joint) as the rear bushing in the old one had decided to leave. This week I replaced the outer tie rod ends and got an alignment. It's amazing how much better the gas mileage seems to already be, not to mention the...
I just did the tie rods on mine for the second time. I put MOOG on it his time as the no names didn't hold up to the abuse I put them through. I had to replace my driver side upper control arm too. I'm ashamed to admit it, but I had about an inch and half of play from the connector bar to the...
Ummm... No. Nothing you said reinforces your claim. Fuel tanks since the 80s have still been made from steel.. Look at a 2nd gen Monty. Why is it that some cars are Specifically E85 compliant? Why is that since the introduction of 10% ethanol in normal gasoline, small engines have had major...
Exactly, which is why it puzzled me when E85 was recommended to "clean" the injectors. Not to mention the residue it leaves behind on equipment that isn't E85 compliant.
Yeah, I know what e85 is. I know how it's made too... I am curious how it helps clean the injectors. You'd be better off outing isopropyl alcohol in it I think.
What about E85 would help the Montero get better gas mileage? How does it act as a cleaner?
On topic, be sure your tire pressure is good. Make sure your front end is tight. Keep up with your alignments. You'd be surprised how much better your mileage can be with a lined up set of wheels. Make...
Lower the tire pressure. I go to about 18 psi. Put it in 4 HiLoc. Unlocked rear diff. Just accelerate slow and you should be good to go. I never once came close to getting stuck. I used to drive mine on the beach almost every weekend when I was in NC. North End of Carolina Beach.... Oh how I...
I'll see what I can do about that on mine. Only I'll have to be a little more inventive due to my winch taking up much of that space. Sounds like a nice project this week.
Thanks! And be proud of that new beauty mark brother. I think it adds character. ;)
Euro, the heater core issues have been experienced my myself and a few others to include laoutbacktrail. My problem is that mine doesn't get hot enough to produce heat once it dips below freezing. It seems to be gunked up, but flushing it only works for a week maybe two at most then it's back to...
I believe that autozone uses rebuilt cores from various companies. I'd say if its had at least 5,000 miles on it since that engine was put in then it's good to go. The grinding when shifting gears would be more of a concern to me pending you are used to driving a manual transmission.
