Very nice... it looks like a 'little old lady's car' find with those running boards. :-D

One thing though, if it were completely factory, the grill and door handles should match...
I wonder what those cost?
They look to me to be well suited to be deployed after a disaster, such as the after the earth quake in Haiti or the hurricane in the Philippines.
Marten,
Fantastic write up. This kind of thread is great for, as you said, showing people that anyone can do this kind of stuff in their garage with relatively basic tools and skills and perseverance.
And the bumper looks great too, it fits the style of the vehicle excellently.
There are probably a dozen forums dedicated to Toyota Hilux/Tacomas with a subforum for the specific generation; these are my personal favorites:

What are you using for a head unit? Handheld MP3 player?
Sam,
That's a great looking truck, you've definitely done well with your choices of modifications.
I just read your blog about how you got it, that's a cool story, you're definitely living up to your side of that bargain :-D

Don't underestimate the Hi-Trac IFS... Hiluxes ran that design through the end of the 6th gen in 2004.
Scott Wilson's truck is and for ever shall be one of my favorites.
I think his truck was last I heard in Colorado Springs, CO.
Whoa, I didn't know he had finished his 'Cruiser... actually, I didn't know he had started it. The last I saw he had purchase it and life was getting in the way...
Very cool.
I'd have a hard time deciding between these two.

I thought Toyota took great...
LC Adventure posted an interesting article on this topic today.
