    Best designed rugged Chuck Box?

I was loving the idea of building a chuck box so I copied plans from the internet for a very basic one. It's fantastic but I'll never ever use it because of the weight! It weighs the same as a sheet of plywood 8'x4'....alot! And when the thing is filled with the cooker, plates etc...it's even...

    Tent for long term use

If you're putting the tent up and down up and down...then the clam shell is the best option. Less than ten seconds to erect...less than twenty seconds to put down. With any other design you'll be spending more time doing tent stuff than anything else. The Autohome Columbus is probably the...

Which solar panel should I get?

Instead of that huge box...why don't you fit a second AGM battery on the vehicle somewhere that can run the fridge without being charged for a few days? My Patrol has two additional Odyssey AGM Batteries just for the fridge but I can hang a 68w flexi-panel out to extend their life if required...

    Front Runner Featherlite RTT

Myself and a friend took our 4x4's to Morocco earlier this year for a three week touring holiday. He has the FR Featherlite on his Defender 90. It's mounted to a Front Runner roofrack using their own 'Quick Release' mounting brackets. It's a great little tent and pretty sturdy although in high...

Solution for glare from roof lights?

Old thread I know but thought I'd throw these up in case it helps anyone overcome the problem with round HID lights above the windscreen. I knocked these up from Aluminium sheet and screwed them on using existing holes in the cases. It looks a bit daft but the best thing is that they work.

Disco I: Rear cargo mounting options

The threads are UNF....9/16' I think. Same as those for securing seat belt harness points etc so you can use one of the bolts as a pattern to check against.

    Non-plastic water storage options

If you have any space inside the truck then make a full sized mock-up from cardboard to ensure a good fit. Once you're happy you can then get it fabricated in either aluminium or stainless steel and have it covered with automotive carpet. This stainless tank has slosh baffles inside, has three...

    Campsite Lighting

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the National Luna LED lights with amber light diffuser. We find them great in areas where bugs and mosquitoes are a constant nusence. Apparently the Mosquitoes don't see the Amber yellow light spectrum that draws them to regular white lights....We still get...

What's the fastest +12volt pump for airing tires up

ARB have slipped way down hill with this twin unit...reliability has been an issue with the crank bolt snapping off. Some owners have modified it by drilling and tapping a larger bolt into the crank shaft. They're also eating fuses at an alarming rate....they're not as good as their Bull Bars...

Testing Pull-Pal Alternative: Smittybilt W.A.S.P. (Winch Anchor Support Platform)

There's a self recovery ground anchor on the market called the Lan-Cor....me and a bunch of friends decided to put one to the test against the Pul Pal. Despite multiple attempts and 'one on one' advice from the manufacturers in New Zealand we simply couldn't get the Lan-Cor to work in sand...

    Different feet available for awnings?

We were camping in soft sand a few weeks ago with the awnings up...the poles kept sinking into the ground so I cut the bottom off of 2 x 2lt Pepsi Bottles....they have about the same footprint as a baby elephant and stopped the poles sinking.

    Alu-Cab shawdow awning

The Hannibal awnings also don't need poles....more quality gear from Sarth Ifrica.

    Camp Shower Showdown

I need a shower water system that's quick and easy to set up and take down...plus finding water in the Middle East isn't as easy as other places....plus it very rarely gets cold enough to freeze water here :-) > With my Nissan I simply plug in the shower hose and off it goes! We do a lot of...

Arb awning swing arm fixture broke

These pivot points are also available in cast aluminium(or sort sort of monkey metal). The ARB manufacturer in China would know about them since they use them for the 2.2m and wider awnings.

    Xterra and ARB Fridge Install

The early fridges with the thermostat issue and the later ones have different colored LED display...sorry but I don't know which is which but the guys at ARB should be able to tell you.

    Camp Shower Showdown

My first foray into the hot water showers has been a good one. I have a 50lt stainless steel tank in the back of the Nissan pumped via a Surflo Pump through a Helton Blue Heat exchanger. I've learnt to pump the first 20 seconds of water back into the storage tanks since it's too hot from sitting...

    Xterra and ARB Fridge Install

My mate would beg to differ with you on that! He's on his third ARB fridge in three years. The first edition ARB Fridges had a Non-Serviceable thermostat...replacement number One. The second fridge suffered the same fault...but on the 2.1 version they were able to replace the thermostat only...

    Pathfinder Winch

I recently had a WARN ZEON 10 Platinum mounted behind the factory bumper of my 2009 Nissan Patrol....not everyone needs a heavy bull bar so this worked out well for me. The flip-up number plate adds a the finishing touch to the discreet mounted winch that I was looking for.

    Frontrunner Fetherlite RTT

Me and a friend have just completed a three week trip around Morocco using his Front Runner featherlight. The only issue that annoyed him was that during windy evenings the wind would get between the outer fly sheet and the inner tent and lift the support poles out from the sleeves that they sit...
