    What Tundra do you recommend?

I installed one on my 1st gen....I don't need it at all for most things on the trail, but it is nice to have when coming up over a steep rise with a drop on the other side. Can't see anything with the nose of the truck pointed at the sky. The camera tells me where the trail is in those situations.

    What Tundra do you recommend?

The 5.7 is great. The 4.7 is an excellent motor and super reliable, but lacks in the power department. Dimensions on the 1st and 2nd gen are comparable, but the 1st gen is easier to see out of. When I drive my wife's '19 Sequoia the hood makes front visibility difficult. The hood on the 1st...

    What Tundra do you recommend?

Definitely not fixed. Still there on the 05-06. If I apply Fluid Film in the Fall then I have zero problems. But I got lazy the past 2-3 years and now I have surface rust all over the frame again. Now I get to go back under, clean it all off, repaint, and then do Fluid Film. Like was said...

is the 1st gen tundra one of the best platforms

You are correct. The categories I was considering were more "things you do with a truck". Reliability and longevity are excellent on these. I'm currently 250k miles and the engine is bulletproof. Overall maintenance is minimal and easy to do. The only problem I've had is still chasing a...

is the 1st gen tundra one of the best platforms

I said it earlier in the thread, but I'll say it again here. The 1st gen Tundra is a great all-around truck. It's good at doing many things, but not great at any one thing. Good at "truck stuff" like you said....hauling, normal driving, some offroad, etc. It can tow, but it can't tow a lot...

    OldManTan 1st Gen Sequioa

Love the 1st gen Sequoias. High on my list to get and build. I really like what you've done so far with yours. A couple of questions: 1.) How are you liking the 37's and 4.88 gears? I'm looking at upping to at least 35's on my 1G Tundra and am not opposed to 37's. But need to figure out...

2005 Tundra novice build - "The Rez"

Finally got all the parts together and rebuilt the axle. Even repainted the green that CVJ does with their axles. Easy to rebuild, just needed the correct tool to crimp. New boot on the outer (much better than what was on there) and reused the high angle inner boot. So far so good. Driver's...

    t4rFL's 06 Tundra Build

Good to know. I don't plan on adding an amp and I didn't want to block the vent either. I still have my rear seats (need them), but the space behind the driver's seat is basically reserved for equipment....MOLLE panel on the back with pouches of various items, tool roll on the ground, bottle...

    t4rFL's 06 Tundra Build

How do you like the Rockville sub? I'm wanting to do the same thing. Just not sure if I want it under the seat or behind the rear bench. Did you connect direct to your headunit?

2005 Tundra novice build - "The Rez"

My truck has been making a semi-random "snap" or "clunk" when turning from stationary....like when reversing. Much on the front is new (Camburg uniballs, inner and outer tie rods). LBJ's are Toyota and have between 50-60k on them. LCA bushings were replaced about 50k ago, same with rack...

2005 Tundra novice build - "The Rez"

Good advice. I'm cautiously optimistic that it won't be bad, but most other bolts that I've taken off for the first time were a nightmare, so.... Everything that I take off goes back on with anti-seize. Makes maintenance so much easier.

2005 Tundra novice build - "The Rez"

Alignment is done and the truck feels amazing. I guess I didn't realize how loose things actually were....I must have gotten used to it as it slowly happened. Camber and toe were set close to the center of the spec range, and caster was pushed out to 3.2. The steering is excellent...tight...

    2024 Tacoma

Any concerns with the new hybrid drivetrain (i-FORCE MAX) being offered? I'm always a little wary of more components to fail or complicate repairs. We were looking at a 3rd gen Sequoia, and though the numbers were great with the hybrid drivetrain, I was concerned about unforeseen maintenance...

2005 Tundra novice build - "The Rez"

I finally had some time to do some needed maintenance on the Rez. The past two years I've been so busy with other things that I haven't used the truck for anything besides daily driving and towing. And I haven't done any maintenance besides the normal oil changes. The front needed some love...

2005 Tundra novice build - "The Rez"

I haven't had much time to work on the truck, and I didn't take it out wheeling at all last year. Just too busy. My free time was taken up by other projects, including a '54 Packard that I'm restoring. It looks nice from about 30 ft if you squint your eyes. I have much more to do before it's...

2nd Gen Sequoia as offroad rig and tow platform

I'm considering the same as you. Currently have an '05 Tundra that will remain my trail rig and jack-of-everything truck. But I can't fit the whole family in it and that limits what we can do. We need a large vehicle to fit the whole family, have room for storage, be able to tow, and be...

Tundra vs metal post. Advice needed

I don't want to detract from the original thread, but to answer your question wheeling with a 1st gen Tundra is totally doable. I have 33's, would love 35's but not ready to regear. The truck is big and long and it isn't as graceful on the trails as a smaller rig. There aren't as many...

Tundra vs metal post. Advice needed

The only reason I would consider touching up the paint is to prevent rust. But otherwise, I'd leave it alone. If you are wheeling the truck a lot it's all getting covered in pinstripes anyways, so who cares. A few years ago I paid a friend to fix a bunch of dents in my bedsides and repaint...

2005 Tundra novice build - "The Rez"

I thought about it briefly, but the olive drab/gray look is growing on me. It looks a bit more utilitarian and is a nice contrast to the overall monotone black that the rest of the truck is. I'll have to paint it regardless though, since the factory primer is not going to stand up to UV rays...
