I run my truck hard. I was getting 10.something mpg in town recently where I used to get 13.5'ish mpg. I thought something was going wrong or wearing. On our trip to see the eclipse these were the numbers:
2007 LBZ Duramax (stock, no tuner) 2500HD Silverado classic crew cab, 6.5' bed
Flippac...
I have the 2007 Silverado "Classic" (pre-smog) with the LBZ. I love it. I've added H2 wheels and larger BFG A/T tires, leveled it and a larger fuel tank (Aerotank 52 gal). It's got a Flipac and in this virtually stock from it has done the Mojave Road with ease (granted, not a real challenging...
I concur. There are still Wildernest campers out there and they made far fewer and they were all older than the Flipacs are. The Flipac is a brilliant concept that bridges the gap between a shell and a light, pop-up camper. Everything is a compromise (comfort of a 40' motorhome with...
The Flippac is one of THE most flexible camping solutions there is and you can get one for ANY pick-up on the road for a pretty darn fair price. We love ours. Having said all that... FRP is in the business of making fiberglass pipe for industrial processes. When they have orders for pipes...
The question remains... HAve any of you forded a river/stream deep enough to completely submerge the battery terminals with no ill effect? I have been thinking of mounting batteries where my spare is (once the spare is on a swing away) but I too worry about the effects of submerging them...
Is there a concern that by attaching the front of the shell to the vertical you will now transfer body torque loads into the shell and crack it at those self tapping screw locations? Maybe thats why they left it as a "soft joint".
Here's some good e-readin' on all thing battery and solar.

The Sears Platinum batteries USED to be rebadged Odyssey batteries (http://www.odysseybattery.com/). IMHO the Odyssey batteries are THE best AGM batteries around. I was seriously bummed out that Sears switched. But I found an Odyssey battery distributor nearby and the cost was on the same...
Flippac's have been $6'ish for quite some time (at least 6-8 years). There is no difference between the "AT version". They are all made by FRP in Riverside CA. We love ours but IF you live in a rainy area I's look at something else. Putting it away wet and not being able to open it up to dry...
A new Flippac will run you about $5,500 these days. The Habitat is TOTALY different tooling (and more complex tooling IMHO) and the volume is MUCH lower as it only fit the JK. Combined with higher quality tent and there you have it. Also... The Flippac tooling has been paid for years and...
Another Bed Rug vote AND I carefully punched holes in it to line up with rivnuts and bolt my cabinetry down right through/on top of the bed rug. The way it evens out the bed corrugations, the warmth... It is VERY barefoot friendly and cozy. Even my gf comments on how comfortable/livable it...
I've run B20 in my 2007 LBZ Duramax (pre-smog version of Duramax) for a few years now with zero issues. I do think the mileage is a bit lower but I haven't bothered compiling hard numbers. With the ultra low sulfur fuel I believe ALL diesel is B02 (2%) to get the require lubricity so the...
Maybe that's a Tacoma thing but FRP bolted mine directly to/through the bed (but I have a steel bed on my Silverado). But the foam they use will NOT last even one trip down the Mojave Road. Ask me how I know this!
I was going to mention that... Part of what you purchased was a historically unique vehicle. Why would you want to strip that off?!? And I think you got one heck of a vehicle for the price. Post up more of your adventures and upgrades/changes as you go.
I like power poles BUT they really do come apart very easily.
JonyJoe... I think your set-up deserves some more write-up. Do you have two MPPT controllers and if so to what end?
It seems like a descent size RTT with inside ladder annex would be the solution. Two bunk cots in the annex would sleep all four kids "downstairs" and if in the future you kick the kids out into a separate tent the bunk cots would still fit that bill too.
