New to AGM , and my first one is an Odyssey ODX-AGM34R, any one care to help, please ?

If your system is really charging at 14-14.1V when fully warm, that's way better than my '97 Toyota which charges at about 13.2-13.5 when hot. An occasional full charge on a smart charger wouldn't hurt, but may not be strictly necessary.

Huge price increase for GAIA Maps!

I expect all free online services/apps to go bad eventually. But Gaia is pay, so it's a little different. Time will tell if Gaia has jumped the shark, price-wise. BTW, some of the techs who worked on Gaia are starting a new topo map-on-your-device app to be called 'Goat Maps'. They say it's...

Huge price increase for GAIA Maps!

The non-pay version is only online, right? The whole point (for me) is to be able to carry [multiple] maps in the device w/o needing internet connection.

Huge price increase for GAIA Maps!

In their recent (late July, 2024) automated email, Gaia GPS claims they have "millions of subscribers", which I take to mean maybe around a million. If the $20 subscription increase goes to all 1 million subscribers, they just increased their take by $20,000,000 per year. If they actually...

GAIA issue - using up all my phone's storage

Could your issue be that you have a large collection of maps in your Gaia account which Gaia keeps trying to download to your phone because you haven't disabled "Auto resume map downloads" for the maps you don't want? BG: I have Gaia on phone and tablet. The tablet has a big collection of maps...

    Garmin Tread XL Screen Material?

Glass is hard and won't become abraded by fingers. If it's really glass AND you have no plans to use it in a way that it could be dropped or bashed into a hard object, you shouldn't need a protector.

    Dometic PLB40 Alternative?

I have had a National Luna PPP (the gray one with the small panel) for 11 years. It only gets used when I go camping, which varies from 1 to 7 times a year, so light use. It has never failed in any way and I'd buy another one. Put my own AGM batt in it and rigged extra leads directly to the...

Switch to a phone that has a larger display? Here's what I'm getting on an iPhone Xr, 6.1" display.

Huge price increase for GAIA Maps!

My last August renewal was $40. I've got time to watch them and see if they slow down on the screwups or continue to dissipate the app into oblivion.

Huge price increase for GAIA Maps!

When I'm logged in, it doesn't show any subscription price, just that it renews in August. When not logged in, it's says $60/year (shown as $4.95/month.)

Users of Gaia on iOS phones: Old phone or bad Gaia?

For the last month or two (or maybe 3), Gaia maps have been slow to load and I frequently have to switch to airplane mode to make it work with the offline maps stored in my phone. Question: Are these the symptoms of mismanagement at Gaia or is my hardware too old to keep up? It's been 5.5...

    Cotton Clothing?

I always prefer cotton next-to-skin unless it's too cold. Except for socks. For me, cotton is no go for socks. Synthetic with a small percentage of wool is the best I've found for socks.

    New Garmin GPS-Rumors

I hope they produce a Montana 700 series with an adequately bright backlight for the display. It's the one clear failing of the current 700 units which are from 2020.

Southern route from San Diego to Texas for the eclipse

I was contemplating a driving trip to possibly meet relatives in Austin for the eclipse; The southern route angle makes it more interesting. Of course, any alternative is better than travelling by superhighways. Looks like it might be an excellent trip, but it'd be nice if there was a bit more...

looking for a simple set up

I got an iPad Mini (Cellular + WiFi) and am glad I'm not using a full size iPad. I got the biggest memory size they had at the time: 256GB. If they had 512GB I would have bought that. But 256GB holds an boatload of Gaia maps so I think 256GB would be OK.

looking for a simple set up

If it has an SD card in it and receives GPS, but is not capable of cellular data, it's not an iPad. Maybe it's some flavor of Android tablet. Just so everyone can be on the same page, Apple bundles GPS capability ONLY with iPads equipped with cellular. WiFi only iPads are SOL as far as receiving...

Lithium Ion jump pack failed today during a jump, looking for ideas on what happened?

At 8 years, it's most likely done. Most users (Amazon reviews, etc) report that they often fail at 4 or 5 years, sometimes at 3 years. You could investigate the super capacitor packs next...no batteries so no battery death issues.

Suggestions on how to utilized these UK 1627 loadout cases?

You've already identified the main issue with big cases-weight. Either keep 'em light or utilize them in a location where they don't have to be moved for the length of the trip.
