    My '10 Titan Pro-4X

Great build on Snoopy so far. I have a '08 Titan Pro-4X and love it. Very sturdy vehicle and great power/torque. I am rooting for your build to bring more attention to Titan Pro4xs. They are so capable and rugged. And VERY good looking in my opinion. I cant bear the sight of recent F150, 250s.

    Educate me on the Frontier

Research the SMOD issue of the second gen (current) frontiers. That has been the only major headache with Frontiers.

Why aren't ute or tray back style campers more prevalent in the US?

I love flatbeds and i have wanted one pretty badly for several reasons. I have a Titan with Hawk on my slide-in. In researching flatbeds I find the costs are a bit prohibhitive right now. $6k installed for a UTE, and then FWC flatbed is another $6k or so premium compared to equivalent slide-in...

Thinking of getting a Titan. Discuss please.

And, based on popular advise here and elsewhere, i just bought a 2008 Titan Pro4X with 79,000 miles on it for $17k at a dealer. Had to replace battery as advised by the mechanic that inspected it, but other than fluid changes needed, it should be good to go. I'll find out and report. Looking...

Thinking of getting a Titan. Discuss please.

Glad to hear the Titan love. I have always admired the Frontiers (way more than Tacos for looks), and hte value they provide. And have also seen how ubiquitous the Navara is around the world. I wanted to get a frontier to put a popup camper on it, but am now thinking a Titan king cab might be...

So we went to the Overland Expo...

Thanks all for the encouragement. I continue to look out for Nissans. Hopefully when the cash jingles in my pocket again, the frontier of my hopes will show up on cue.

So we went to the Overland Expo...

Awesome! lets do that at the expo next year. Lets you and I form the Nissan gang - right across from the toyota FWC crowd ;-)

So we went to the Overland Expo...

Thanks guys. Its quite heartening to hear back. From my travels in south and central america, i know that the frontiers/navaras are very well respected (though in diesel configuration mostly). Its just been my frustration at being unable to find the exact frontier of my needs that By the same...

So we went to the Overland Expo...

I and my wife were there these past few days, to sniff out mid-size trucks and pop-up campers. We expected to find some Nissan Frontiers and more tacomas, but were very disappointed to see zero Frontiers out there, and dozens of tacomas. Everyone we talked to lauded their tacos and though none...

Considering a Frontier as overlanding platform, need some opinions

Thanks for keeping the thread going. And the terrific advise about what to look for in the tranny. I resolved that i dont want to buy any frontier with more than 70k on it, just for the reason you showed. My own search for the perfect nissan has been rather painful. Found the dream truck that...

Considering a Frontier as overlanding platform, need some opinions

Hmm, you make me want to consider the 2nd gen more seriously. From what i am gathering here, it looks like the 1st gen is good only for the occasional heavy load. Hauling a 1000lb + camper fulltime might not be a bright idea on a 180hp motor... guess i'll just wait and hope a nice 2nd gen turns...

Considering a Frontier as overlanding platform, need some opinions

Nasko, that is great info. The knock sensor - what is the replacement cost we are talking about? Premium gas in the US is no problem for me. The mileage loss, i think i can live with considering we drive a jeep wrangler right now at 18mpg.

Considering a Frontier as overlanding platform, need some opinions

I learned about the supercharger on the 1st gen just today. Looks like 210hp total. Thats not bad at all. How is the reliability of the superchargers? Also, does the SC kick in only when when going uphill or is it on all the time?

Considering a Frontier as overlanding platform, need some opinions

Thanks for the advise so far guys. Slight change of track here.. I am getting a bit frustrated with my truck search. Looking hard for a 2nd gen Frontier 4x4, crew cab, LONG BED, automatic. These are really extremely rare to find. Autotrader lists only 6 in the whole damn country right now, all...

Excellent news! when did this settlement happen? So it looks like second owners up to 80k miles are clearly covered. Thanks for this.

Considering a Frontier as overlanding platform, need some opinions

RonapRhys, i am really pretty gentle with my driving - even got a ticket for driving too slow!! and definitely will not be doing anything more than fire roads as far as 4x4 is concerned, so not too worried about power. Clutch..well i will be hauling about 1500 lbs of camper and ourselves, if...

Considering a Frontier as overlanding platform, need some opinions

Skibum thanks for the great advise. 1. Suspension: i believe either Alcan or deaver are in California, so i will contact them. Nisstec sounds like a great start as well. I'll probably start with airbags for a brief while and then go to custom springs just to see the difference for myself. The...

Considering a Frontier as overlanding platform, need some opinions

i see you have an '07. How did you deal with the coolant-radiator issue? Did you put in a new radiator or re-route the hose or hoping for the best with your warrantee? Also, does the nissan extension of the radiator/trans warrantee to 80k miles apply second owners as well?
