Relating to recovering others, heres another reason - cables usually break at the hook end - if your winch is mounted in the rear, all the shapnel etc does'nt come through the windscreen & take ya out. For much the same reason, plus the fact it blows front diffs & reverse gear on some vehicles...

Hi - I started off having no electric winch on my vehicles, just used a Tirfor, which is good, as ya can hook up either end, or pull vehicle back onto its wheels or whatever. Then, over time, my vehicles got heavier, I ate less breakfast (or got older!!), electric winches suddenly started...

Glad I did'nt disappoint ya then........:) Yeah mate, you are dead right with what you're saying on having chains on the camper tires - all good!! Re the mighty 4Runner - with ABS, & only chains on one end - be carefull on any icey covered HARD surfaces. The chains give a bigger rolling...

Brad, yours has a slightly differant hitch than mine - yours got drum or cable operated brakes, instead of the std hydraulic discs.........??

Well mate, given the photos ya had up - I just had to ask.........:) The rims you have look like IFS offset. Refit yr tyres to some std 16 inch rims off a 1990's beam axle Hilux or Cruiser - that'll fix the rear clearance problem.........;)

Hi, the SWB 40 series only ever had the 4 cylinder diesel motors fitted as stock - having owned both petrol & diesel ones myself in the past, my experiances would prefer the petrol, as when fitted with a set of 33 inch tyres, theres not too many places they won't go off-road when driven...

Hi, I have 6 differant ARB 9m 8,000kg snatch straps, some of which have done some seriously hard work at times. Have never had any 'issues', & even ones that have been used well in excess of 50 times, are showing no wear, or stress areas. (The oldest / most used ones are now due to be 'cut up'...

Lols mate..........!! One of the benefits of the new ARB one, is that its virtually impossible for the cable to go down the 'outside' of the pulley.......... As with most ARB stuff - its just seriously 'cool'............;)
