08 HSE Rear Fuse Box for Ham?

New guy here. Not sure if I should have posted here or in the electronics section but...... I want to install my 2M radio in the back of my RR. Yaesu FT7900. There is a fuse box with a power supply I can tap into. I'd rather go straight to the battery but the firewall is a Bit*h and I want to put the unit in the back anyway. Has anyone else used it for radio power?
Thanks!

I have read of others doing that, too bad the LR3 does not have that configuration. If you want tips, drop me a PM, and I'll send you some ham install pictures on the LR3.

Thanks! I have not totally given up on the direct route to the battery. But during my brief look over of the engine compartment the firewall looked arduous(very). Then I realized the power lead in the rear fuse box. My radio will be fused and filtered but I'm concerned about the power draw from that lead.

Thanks again!

Yes, there is a good chance that other things could cause noise or power fluctuation. I ran a dedicated line to an Anderson power pole from a 2nd battery. I have not had any problems or noise. It would be worthwhile to tap the power, and test the radio before you make a final decision. If you can use it, it will certainly be easier. I would suggest the power pole though.

Thanks! I agree. I'll definetly use power pole connections as the radio is used as a base station as well as a mobile unit. My son's HS lacrosse season is starting so I'll use it more frequently on road trips.
