08 Sequoia introduced

If you like your SUV in size XXL:

Toyota introduced the 2008 Sequoia at the LA Auto Show. It's based on the redesigned Tundra pickup, so it's a little bigger than the old Sequoia.

The Sequoia is very large, but it's also very spacious inside. The 3rd row of seats is usable by regular size passengers, not just kids. But the third row takes up most of the luggage space. Overall length is 205 inches, 3 inches longer than a Chevy Tahoe.

The 5.7L gas V8 provides 400 ft lbs of torque. With the right tow hitch, the Sequoia is rated to pull 10,000 lbs. Four wheel drive models have a two speed transfer case. Unlike the pickup it's based on, the Sequoia has independent rear suspension.

Autoblog has a series of photos of the Sequoia here:

Wow. IFS and IRS, don't know that I like that idea.
For the target market, probably makes sense. Toyota might have thought they needed to differentiate the Sequoia and Land Cruiser a little more distinctly. Since the Cruiser is presumably the rugged SUV or whatever, seems like making the Sequoia more soccer mom- and middle management dad-friendly is the way to go.

This is my 2002 Sequoia w/my Horizon AT...
I had just gotten the AT and just had to take it out (the FJ40 was under the weather at the time).

I like them. I love the new Tundras and I was really curious what they would do with the Sequoias.

why LC and Sequoia

Car and Driver asked Toyota why they needed the Sequoia as well as the newly refreshed, Japanese-built Land Cruiser.

The answer is that they seem to appeal to two separate markets:

I like it. I do like the looks of the first gen better though. My wife wants a SUV and the Sequoia is an attractive package.

We could use the space more from the Sequoia as we have 3 girls and all their ice hockey gear along with mine. It is too tight even for a Land Cruiser 100 series.

Maybe I'll go look at '07s now that the '08 is out.

Maybe not much but I don't care for the XREAS suspension either. I was (still am) a solid axle fan and was a little concerned about buying my 4Runner. While the IFS certainly doesn't articulate like the Wrangler I sold (or even my F350) I love my 4Runner :)

Whats the diff between that and the newer 4Runners with XREAS???
