nostalgia,yup.
havent messed myself with the bullet proof reliability of the 4.0..
i thought you needed a stroker for decent upgrade in power/torque.
Not so much...a stroker definitely puts it way lower inn the powerband though. Some minor porting, well actually cleaning up on the head and a slight compression bump, and advancing the cam..or getting a 96-99 cam and advancing it if you didn't get lucky with that year already & the mopar/victor reinz .043 head gasket will get you going decently, and more mileage to boot. I actually have a 4.2l mini stroker that's more or less exactly what's listed here with a .060 over and .090 more stroke. Advancing he cams free horsepower to any rebuild, even with the older 87-95 cam advance it 4*...the 96-99 is just better. I also threw 1.7yella Tera roller rockers. You wouldn't believe how rough stock heads are though. Mine was a 94 year cast, had a bb size casting flaw in a oil passage. That I knocked free by scratching it..literally. The ports were like herculiner rough, I only used a carbide bur to clean things up and went over light with 120/320 on the intake/exhaust. Much better...no real "porting" just cleaned and gasket matched and shaped the valve guide a bit.
Sorry to thread jack.
