You see, in the Troopy, I just kinda relax. It's not going anywhere fast, and I'm not able to maneuver through traffic like a sports coupe, and the brakes don't respond like four-wheel disks, so I just don't even try; settling into an easy "cruise" so to speak.

So, the Troopy stays.

I enjoy watching your progress on it -- I am glad you are keeping it!

-H-, your "decided to keep it" post sums it up excatly the way i feel as well.

i would have jumped in with the sarcastic, "sure, let the bells and whistles run your life" but i refrained.

as you may know i bought brittans' taco last year and started enjoying its newness, almost all my trips were with it instead of the 55. on w/e's i would jump in the FJ55 to run errands, home depot, plant nursery, ect. and i started to notice how much i enjoy driving it. just like you said, it wont,, so i dont bother.

before the tacoma i didnt have a madern rig to choose for outings, it was always the 55. i found myself taking the tacoma mostly at first, but when i took the 55 out on a fairly recent big trip it hit me. i prefer the 55 even over a modern rig. i dont know what it is, but the 55 is my personal choice for all off road adventures. now the tacoma just looks the part going back and forth to work and the occasional off road trip, really kind of a waste since i can do it in a 2wd.

if given the choice of either or, like you have/had. i would do exactly what you did, keep the old iron. ive always been a softy like that.

good decision bud.

Glad you kept the troopy. Playing in the snow with the taco this weekend really made me wish the 55 was togather.

Glad to hear the troupy stays... I'd have been heartbroken for you if you gave it up at this point.

I really like the older utilitarian trucks. I realize my rig isn't as old and rudementary as the 45's and 55's, but it's pretty bare bones and I like it that way. It's a truck and it rides and drives like one. Like I keep saying, every day I get in it and I'm just happy to drive it, no mater what. I just feel like I'm firing up in the morning, heading out into the bush to check the livestock and fences. I just love driving old trucks.

Cheers

Dave

Time flies when you're having fun...and the Troopy and I have been doing less mods and more traveling! So, I suppose I'll update ya'll...with the recent adventures of the "senior" Troopy on Expo...especially since the Aussies have the new "fancy" ones! :)

A cargo floor was added to the rear prior to the Expedition Trophy 2008, using Tuffy Cargo Rails from TRDParts4u. Look for an in-depth write up on Expeditions West's site soon!

The Expedition Trophy was a blast! Since I didn't have solar, a bunch of folks were willing to take the Troopy around to "charge the batteries." In fact...I had quite a line...take that Disneyland!

Spent some time with the ARB FJ Cruiser...sweet rig BTW...aux. tank, OME suspension....

And explored some history with a few other Expo folks!

Recently, I had the opportunity to take the Overland Training Comprehensive Course! Graham and Scott ordered up some wonderful weather for the training...and I found that the Troopy becomes quite the tank in snow with logging chains installed!

...and got to help some kids who didn't quite figure out how to stunt drive in the sand....

Does this FJ make my butt look thin?

Did a bit of drooling over Mr. Hanson's rigs...what a view!

And....power steering is on the boat from OZ...with a bracket being fabbed in CAD!

Muy Bueno!
