Have you talked to Marv at Spectre?

I'm keeping that option open. They run $650 to $2300 at SOR. I'm willing to bet I can have a friend pick one up from the wreckers in Melbourne and Fed Ex it for significantly less than that....

Even with a rebuild from my local place, I'm still in the $350 range....

Not that I don't order from SOR all the time, but since I've got the contacts, and am not afraid to wait for shipping.....

try a couple of companies up here in Canada that sell JDM parts. like G&S cruiser parts and RADD cruisers. A toyota IFS box off a JDM surf should be fairly cheap as they are in the wreckers up here now (especially on the west coast)

Right hand drive power steering box off an 85 Surf....$225 US!

Looks like it's coming to fruition!

do you want push pull steering or cross over? An '85 will have a solid front axle and push pull box (just like an '85 4 runner in the states only on the other side!) once you get into '90 and up they are IFS and will have the box that alot of mini truck owners use for cross over steering (but RHD of course!)

just to make sure you get the right one

The stock Land Cruiser steering is a push/pull design. With a 79-85 solid axle box, I can replace the original manual box with a ps one....and keep the original steering, shock tower, etc.

Like this, only on the other side:

I'll replace the tie rods, and rebuild the center arm, so steering should be pretty tight, and close to stock for the OEM factor....

I know a lot of folks use the cross over style 60 series or saginaw conversion, which is supposed to be better for 35"+ tires, lockers etc., but my steering is pretty good right now, so I think the "simple" ps upgrade will be the best option....

Nice build/progress.

Quick question, what is the wheelbase on your troopy? I was just curious.

115" Wheelbase....technically more interior space than a Defender 110....Graham and I figured it out at the ET this year....

Very cool. I am surprised that the wheelbase is only 3" longer than an 80. I guess it is all about packaging. I had no idea it had more room than a 110, that is good to know also.

Thanks again.

Itch...itch...itch....

Well, I guess I should scratch that itch before it gets out of hand. With certain members here waiving their 100 series land cruisers in front of my face, (who will be called out publically! Pskhaat!), and the thoughts that maybe, just maybe, a 100 may be a better choice for my family....

I'm borrowing a buddy's 2000 UZJ100 for a few days. Ahh....V8, OME lift....climate control....and my butt got warm totally independent of diet on my way to the office this morning....

We'll see what the family thinks....:sombrero: :smileeek:

But where would I put the OZTent?
