1989 4runner build

Jeff are you running low profile bump stops? and what are you running for your rear suspension? I am debating running deaver F67 springs, but doubt I need something that fancy so looking at their spring add on for a 1/4 the price. I am still trying to figure out how to make it so I can have easily removable air bags in the rear so I can haul my m101 trailer around or load up scuba gear and not have it ride on the bump stops.

I was running the low profiles at first but they were too short and the shock was bottoming out and the tire was hitting the fender. I got some Energy Suspension bump stops then cut them down to size and they are much softer than the low pro's. Now at full stuff, the shocks do not bottom out and I'm not rubbing on the fender anymore.

For the rear, I have Old Man Emu Dakar leafs plus the ZUK mod coils plus 2" wheel spacers. I haul a lot of gear when we go camping and the ZUK mod coils keep the rear up when fully loaded and still provide a nice ride when empty.

Are you running the 125# coils for the Zuk mod? I was thinking about running that for awhile to see how it works.

I believe so - Honesty, I don't remember its been so long. I was at his house having a Detroit locker installed and he offered to do his mod while I was there. He had some springs laying around that someone ordered but never picked up so he threw those on for me. Its been 6-7 years now and they still get the job done.

I ran a slightly taller coil in my zuk mod but used 100#ers. Road nice but I had nothing to compare to besides the stock rear leafs.

Any updates?

Nothing yet, been trying to get a hold of deaver for a set of springs for the rear, but have not heard anything back yet.

Next on the list though is:
-rear bumper w/tire carrier, fuel storage, and fold down table to cook on.
- Roof rack
-RTT tent

I need to get the bumper built so I can tow my M101A2 trailer around to see how the 4runner does towing it so I can decide if I will end up using it or building my own smaller trailer for expo use. This is what I have in mind for rear bumper, but with dual fuel can holder and fold down tray.

I like that bumper alot - I wish mine was a bit more stout than it is, but it gets the job done I got for free so I can't complain:

Whats your plan for the roof top tent/roof rack?

I am debating with building a system like this that would mount to rock sliders and rear bumper, but would be removable when not needed. I am not sure if I want the added weight though, so also debating just building a basket for the top to save weight. I am kind of waiting for building the rear bumper to see how the 4runner handles the trailer, because I may end up just mounting the tent on the trailer only.

Could u post some overall pics of the truck with the lt kit installed and the factory wheels? I have some 33x10.50r15's mounted on factory 88 4Runner wheels that are going on my 90 pickup. I talked to Nate at blazeland a few weeks back and am real close to pulling the trigger

Great build! Seems like your build is turning out like mine except for the 3.4 (I wish I had) and LT. Just food for thought this is how I did my bumper and rack.

I used tube clamps to mount on the bumper so I can unbolt them if needed.

Used a spare spindle and hub assembly to make the hinge. Super strong, fully serviceable, and it acts as spare parts if I ever blow a hub.

The hub also allows me to lock the swing arm in different positions which helps out when camping on a hill or need extra table space. The fold out table is extremely useful.

How much noise does that rack make going down the highway? One of my concerns with doing that style is the added wind noise and lower mpg. Pretty sweet setup you have there with the hub

Thanks. I can't hear much wind noise over the tires and engine so I'm guessing its not to bad but then again the tires and engine are pretty loud. As for MPG I normally get around 15 to 17 mpg which is pretty good for all the weight I've added.
