1992 Pickup worth 6900?

So in other words you would not recommend buying this if I want to put a camper on the back?
Even a wooden one with a steel frame that will only be a popup and not much taller than the vehicle itself?
What kind of tires would suit?

Side note: I'm not interested in being able to go fast, just the speed limit.

Also, what the hell should I be looking for then, for what I want to do(camper)? 6 cylinder?

You seem emotionally attached to this vehicle. Be ware when that happens: I've been in sales most my life and seen it many times. You will buy it for $6900 because there is something about it that stirs your emotions. You will soon realize it does not do what you want it to do. You'll be dismayed with it, want it gone, and will sell it for $2500.

If I'm wrong I'll give you your money back.

I have owned 2 of the 22RE equipped Yotas...apparently I didn't learn the first time. Speed limit on the highway out here is 75, it was hard pressed to go that. Try passing a semi truck on a slight incline loaded down..."ok here we go....going...going...going...going....going....ahh forget it, I'll just slide back behind the semi and draft him, at least I'll get decent gas mileage."

Now the 22RE fan boys will tell you otherwise, that it is "just enough"...I find them gutless wonderthuds...

Even have a 3.4 V6 Tacoma...it is great until you throw a load in it.

For a running around town light duty truck they are great...traveling I find them annoying. I have owned Toyotas for over 25 years now, mind you.

I would pay $3000 for that truck and no more. I sold my '92 12-13 years ago for $3500...it was in excellent condition and no rust.

Clutch, it's late. Go to bed and dream about '70s Ford Super Crew resto mods. I know i am.

I wouldn't pay 6k for it, even if it is in excellent condition (as it appears to be). 4k would be the absolute highest I could go if and only if I feel in love with it....

p.s. I don't have any issues with my reg cab 4cyl taco w/ camper shell (of course I don't have the 22re either). Its she a lambo? LOL no. Will she get me there and back? Oh yes, without a doubt. It all depends on what you expect. If you want a hotrod, go get a raptor, srt10 ram, or lightning.

That truck, if it is as nice as it looks, will bring close to that all day long. Fact id be surprised if its not already sold. Yes you can find one for less money, put a couple grand in it to bring it up as nice and you still got $6k in one. These trucks bring the coin. In a lot of cases more than a Tacoma. I just paid $3700 for a 93 with 270k on it. 22re 4wd automatic. Runs and drives great but needs paint. Bought it 2 hrs from home, drove it back. Shocks were done and tires marginal. 4 new Toyota shocks, new idler arm and new rubber all around. $5k in it and still needs paint and I wouldnt take $7k for it. Trucks like these are worth whatever someone is willing to pay. THrow the book away. What you have to decide is what you are willing to pay and then if you cant get it for that, walk away. With this one or any other one. If you think its worth what you are willing to pay, buy it and enjoy it.

Agreed. At least 5K. This truck will do everything you want in relative comfort. Some people ***** about the bench seat, but they must have bad backs or other physical ailments.
With or without camper, it'll be slow to accelerate and strained to travel at 70+ MPH. Depends on where you live, I guess, and how much pressure you feel to travel at higher speeds.
RANT: Modern cars/trucks are ridiculously overpowered and speed limits are too high. I'm quite thankful that speed limits around town here, and on road trips in Alaska/Canada, don't exceed 60 MPH.
Works just fine for me as a camping rig, but I just have a shell on the back.
Tires? Stock or close to it. Actually, I just went up to 31 from stock and don't really notice any difference. 5th gear not need except for speeds 65+, most likely.

I have a truck camper on a 22RE powered truck. I love it! I just go my own speed though. On the highway, I settle in at 55 mph on the flats--it seems most happy there. I agree that modern vehicles are over-powered and speed limits are too high.

It looks like a very nice truck. I'd be tempted to find something lower-priced though, myself. I'm also skeptical about all the work that was put in.

I paid that for a '92 RC back in '97-'98.

$3000 no more...the other $3900 is Toyota "tax", all depends if you're willing to pay it.

Paid less than that for a pristine 90 in the 90s. The tax isn't a Toyota tax, its a cash for clunkers and QE inflation tax. The dollar is worth a ton less than it was in the 90's.

After driving these trucks for a long time, (recently sold a '73 VW Westy that I owned for 8 years, talk about underpowered!) and then jumping in a modern vehicle...I surely don't think modern vehicles are overpowered, it sure is nice to smash down the accelerator and it gets out of its' own way. You don't have to plan your pass...you simply crack open the throttle and go.

There is also a safety issue...if most of the vehicles on the road are traveling fast, being the the slowest on the road is a hazard. I used to be that hazard in the VW, it can be a little unnerving having everyone come racing up on your rear bumper, to go flying past.

Another thing to consider...typically most Americans have short vacation time...we need to jet up the highway to get to a destination quickly. I have seen the sights around my home base plenty...I just want to get my recreation spot quickly. My Tacoma is great around town and short weekend trips....long trips on the road with a trailer, two dirt bikes on it, and loaded down with gear...well it kinda blows. Love the truck for everything but traveling.

More power? Yes please.

Go price out other brands of the same vintage, mini trucks and full size.

I have to admit that I thought speed limits were way too high also. Well, at least I did when I was sitting inside my chinsey little Toyota truck doors. My wife calls them overpriced baby gates.

It's incredible how modern technology really has made it safe to travel at higher speeds. I often look down at the speedo to find that I'm comfortably cruising the van at 80mph. A couple years ago cruising across Montana in my F150 at 95 mph I was getting blown by from F350 Quad cabs with little old retired looking couples in them.

Personally, I'd go bananas traveling from Chicago to Moab or Lk Superior at 55 mph.

A friend of mine is a major British sea kayak manufacturer. While he is quite passionate in his disregard for American kayaks, he often remarks about how incredible American "Laurie's" are.

Regardless, I think the OP has heard well from both sides of his issue and has the info to make up his own mind now.

When I would drive the Westy, I would think everyone was driving too fast...then realized one day, hey(!) it is me being the odd man out. Not that there is anything wrong with that...

Baby gates? Modern technology hasn't changed the fact that every additional 10 mph beyond 50 mph reduces fuel economy by about 14%, or the safety consideration that kinetic energy is proportional to velocity squared. But, I can understand the desire to get the flock off a freeway ASAP. :088:

Actually technology totally changes the safety consideration of that formula. I am a lot safer driving in my late model F150 Quad cab 4x4 at 75 mph than I was in my 9 yr old 1970 FJ40 at 55 mph. Or apples to apples, vs my 4 yr old '76 F250 hi boy . Way safer thanks to technology . Or the '92 Toyota truck in this post vs a new Taco.

Not to mention how much better the fuel economy of a new F150 is at 75 vs my old FJ at 55 thanks to technology.

Those old Toyota doors are not what I would call confidence inspiring. Probably why they don't design them like that anymore.

Edit: 14%? My lifted loaded van gets 16.5 when I can keep it under 65mph, 15.5 at 75ish. Not close to a 14% drop. And I wishing it were even newer gm technology.

Ironically, i have been. And I believe inflation and bad policies have screwed the used car market. Seem prices of 7.3ltr fords lately? Gen2 Cummins? All pickups are out of control. :(
