I can't wait to see this thing in person and maybe catch a ride in it! I've always dreamed of converting my 80 Series to diesel.:ylsmoke:

It was a pleasure to meet Luis and drive the truck. It has great power for the short time I drove it and I think will be a solid rig for whoever ends up with it. The color is even better in person and looks natural on the 80. My shots get pretty close under not the best light conditions.

Cool conversion

Great looking conversion. Another diesel convert here.

The two toyota engines I would love to replace the ever reliable 1HZ with:

1HD-FTE or
1HD-T

Both superb Toyota offerings...

Don't forget about the 1hd-ft
Still 24v but none of the electrical headaches associated with the 1hd-fte

That's whats going in my 80 series

Hey, I'm in Portland and I want an 80 series... wonder what a diesel conversion costs?? I have a montero to trade...

Very NICE! Engine goes without saying, but the paint work looks nice too. The door jams and the engine compartment look good

Getting hold of the engine is the hardest part. After the tsunami in Japan, engines are becoming harder to source over there. There is still europe and australia, and some in canada but expect to pay 8-10k for a half cut (12k +) if your looking at specter off road. Then labor on top of that unless you arr handy in the garage and can do it yourself.

Expensive especially if you want to stay all Toyota, but less than what you would be into a new Tacoma for (barely!), but you would end up with a bulletproof, kick *** landcruiser!

That's a bit steep for me at this point... Makes a 4bt conversion look tempting but I'll bet the Toyota engine is a bit quieter than a Cummins. I was a diesel tech before going back to school to change careers so doing the swap doesn't bother me too much except for trying to get the dash to work. After I graduate, get a job, and sell the montero a diesel 80 will be in my future I think
