1994 F-150 with 4bt Cummins - $11k

This is a 1994 Ford F-150 long bed, Supercab truck with a Cummins 4bt engine swapped in. It is an XL model with factory manual transmission and 4WD. Just over 180,000 miles on the chassis. I will be listing on Facebook Marketplace as well for $11,000 -- but would prefer it goes to a good home here. If this seems like a good fit for your needs, just DM me.

I performed the motor swap, the motor rebuild and most of the modifications and service over my 15+ years of ownership. I have extensive records of what I've done and why. There is a lengthy build thread available as well as an excel sheet detailing work performed over my ownership. These are available to serious buyers with serious interest.

This is still a project truck and that is the reason for its sale. Once a project, always a project. I LOVE driving it, but I don't want to own a project truck any longer. I don't derive the same pleasure from working and tinkering with it that I used to.

Highlights include:
  • Approx 170 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque
  • HX30W turbo, intercooler, spools well and doesn't roll coal.
  • EGTs rarely break 1000 at 22psi
  • Consistent 20-22mpg around town and on the highway
  • Nicely geared to cruise at 65 mph at 2000 rpm
  • 2018 motor rebuild, about 10k since
  • 2018 injector pump rebuild
  • 4" Superlift brand suspension lift (with long radius arms)
  • F250 rear leaf springs
  • 33x10.5" tires on 15" rims (2022)
  • Newer alternator, radiator and electric fan.
  • Mounts for slide-in camper (camper is also available if interested).

Problems:
  • Body is fair. It is a working, driving truck, not a looker.
  • Paint is Rustoleum gloss black. It wears a fresh coat, but has plenty of orange peel.
  • There is rust at both cab corners. The passenger side is a little worse.
  • It could use some longer, heavier front coils. It sits too low with too much camber right now.
  • The exhaust has a crack at the muffler.
  • Fuel filler neck is slow to fill, requires patience.
  • Radio (factory) doesn't work.
  • Dash has typical crack in the pad for the era.

Happy to answer specific questions not answered above. Additional pictures available, just shoot me a DM.

I don't need to sell, but would love to see this go to a good home.

Would you trust driving this across the country? I’m interested
Yes, I would trust it to drive across the country. I've done Colorado thru the Ozarks, Colorado to Chicago, Colorado to Idaho. Lots of shorter trips over the years.

No surprise to anyone on this site: I would carry a tool roll with the basics.

Please be specific about which transmission.
Is it a ZF S5-420 which was standard for F250/350? If so, which ratio set (1st gear ratio)? Or a Borg Warner?
Snd what’s the diff ratio? Any traction adding diffs?

Sure thing.

It is the stock M5R2 five speed transmission from the F150, standard ford small block pattern. Adapters are fairly common. Transfer case is the stock Borg Warner 1356. Rear diff is the stock 3.55 LSD.

Results:
It cruises comfortably at 65mph at 2000 rpm in 5th, 55mph at 2k in 4th (4th is the trans 1:1 gear).
Shifts are comfortable between 2500-3000 rpm...there are no funny gear jumps like on the ZF transmissions.
4wd low @ 1800rpm (peak torque, I think) in 1st gear is probably about 4mph.
