This is my first forum post ever for my montero, i have tried to get on 4x4 wire as well, so far no luck.. I haven't gotten an e-mail back from those guys.
anywho..
My name is Dylan, I'm 23 years old and i fell in love with the montero a few years back. I purchased my 96 with 186k miles on a lien sale for 1800 buckaroonies! it was a great deal for me considering i had a 1999 camaro rs with a mess of problems that i sold for 1800 prior.

The truck grows on me everytime i look at it, and i love tinkering with it. I'm really into doing anything that has to do with interior work, small stuff etc. Not too experienced with major fixes but i've done minor things like the alternator, belts, rear hatch handle replace, fluid changes etc.

Thing is, i've been having a problem with the truck dying at idle intermittently (mostly when engine is warm, very occasionally on cold startups) i could use some help.
I'm pretty sure i've located the main source of the problem..

I first thought maybe it was my iac valve, took that off, cleaned it and for a while it was working pretty normally (probably placebo effect LOL) and then later i thought it was the egr.. come to find a previous owner had made a *bandage* over the egr tube/hose (whatever you call that sucker) over a nasty tear in the darn thingy. its the tube on the drivers side, comes up from the exhaust manifold and bends to the rear of the intake manifold near the egr valve.

Problem is, i'm not sure of how i could make a really good temp. fix for this. Any Ideas?? :)
what i would rather do is get the actual egr tube! but i'm having a god awful time finding it online, and i don't have a junkyard within 100 miles that has a montero.

Please help this guy out! i'm trying to get all the maintenance out of the way so i can start getting this thing seriously trail ready! Thanks..

It's probably best to get a junkyard tube rather than a band aid fix like tape or jb weld. Where are you located?

i'm in douglas city, ca Tiny town. lots of places to wheel though. i was considering jb weld or something just to get me by til i can grab up one at a junkyard. but not sure as to how well it would work.. i guess i might have to find a ride. I'm not sure how safe it is for the engine to be running with a big leak like that.

Douglas looks to be just under 40 miles from Redding, CA. Surprised there isn't a good size junkyard there.
Some junk yards in California have searchable databases, might try those to narrow your search. Also I have been abel to track down some really odd ball auto/moto parts on ebay so that be worth a shot.
good luck

BTW-as soon as my ankle heals and I'm back to walking (mid-Jan or so) my buddy that just bought a 95 SR and I are planning a trip out of Red Bluff probably either a very long day or nice two day trip. I'll send you a PM as we get sloser if you have any interest?
