Vehicle Specs: 1999 Durango SLT (Plus) W/Tow Package - Factory 3.92 gears, 5.9l V8, 9.25 Rear end. Overall a pretty stout running gear. Lift currently consists of Shackles/Torsion bars for about 2" - I would like to add a little more lift, still researching these things. I recently sold my XJ because I was offered a price I couldn't turn down. Much to my dismay, when I started looking for another XJ, it seems like overnight they had shot in price and I couldn't find a clean/well taken care of one for a reasonable price anymore so I looked at alternatives. I had always kind overlooked the Durango in the past, but so far I'm liking the extra comfort, extra power and all that fun stuff. Gas Mileage isn't great though lol.
The first immediate thing it needed was tires, literally the day after I bought it, I ordered 33x10.50 General Grabbers and had them installed at work. Love the tires so far, but haven't tested them off road yet. It's got a couple bumps and bruises but is pretty solid all over. One thing that is major bonus to me is having an actual frame which is remarkably rust free btw. The Rango came with a stack of maintenance history and receipts, including a new transmission about 30k miles ago which made me feel pretty good knowing the trans on these is one of the notorious failure points.
Right now I'm just getting going with maintenance and inspecting everything before I start playing with it and getting a little more into the "build". These don't seem to be a commonly used vehicle for off road in general nor "overlanding". If anyone has resources, I'm all ears and would appreciate all the information I can get. What appears to be the main Durango forum seems pretty dead so finding out what works/what doesn't/vendors and the like has been a bit of a challenge in itself.
Anyways, I will likely use this as a place to document things and I move forward with as well as the adventures that are in the future.
Don't really have any pictures yet since I've had it such a short time.
