I've been a bit busy, and haven't got anything done on the new modifications yet.

Going OT for a bit...
We've been looking for a cash deal car for my wife (hate car payments), and found a dealer that had two '99 Grand Cherokees that had come in on trade and ended up with bad engines. They sat on the back lot for a long time turning green, and the lot manager was motivated to get rid of them. I got them both for $1000 OTD, and split the deal with a friend.

The red (edit - purple) one is ours, it has a 4.0 6-cylinder with a broken piston skirt, but other than being dirty and needing a driver's seat it's in nearly perfect condition otherwise. I'll probably swap in a wrecking yard 4.0, but naturally I'm investigating to see if there is anything more interesting out there. A diesel would be neat, but this is definitely going to be something low budget and quick. That rules out a 4bt or 4bd, along with the fact that they'd destroy the 4.0 drivetrain. I've thought about a stroker, but after researching it looks like a pretty in-depth project, and if I'm going to dive in that deep I'd just do a diesel!

I'm open to suggestions! :sombrero:

Not a bad price for an engine with the supercharger, but unfortunately when they went to the WJs they changed the block, so it wouldn't bolt in...

Different engine mount boss location, accessory brackets cast into the block and in different locations than the older ones, etc. Bell housing is the same. If it would work I'd just bolt in the good 4.0 from the TJ.

Accessories are not to bad, I use the 99+ intake on my 94 block. You just need a new ps pump bracket. But the one above comes with that stuff. And a 99+ TJ should be the same as the 99+ WJ. All 4.0s got the upgrade in 99 for emissions reasons.

The TJs weren't updated until 2000. '99s had a distributor instead of coil on plug (not a big deal to swap), and the AC compressor was high on the passenger side instead of low on the driver side. I'll compare them more closely tonight, but so far all info I've found says that swapping them would be a major endeavor...

Plans for a three point hitch?

We liberated Europe with 54 hp in the Willys :ylsmoke:

Keep it going man, even a dead fish can swim with the tide!

This could very well be true. I have not done it, I also would never try it. The government helicopters along with a forum member here would swoop in to tell you you are doing it wrong and illegally!

After a bit more research, I think I'll be able to swap the two engines without a problem. The WJ engine mounts look like they bolt onto the frame. I think I'll be able to use TJ engine mounts and just modify the WJ frame side brackets.

Uh-oh, I take no responsibility for planting this seed.
