Weather stripping ideas?

Any one have an idea of where i should look for weather stripping for the area between the aluminum rails, 4runner rails and the flip-pac rails.
See below for the area I'm talking about.

That's a really neat concept and idea. It would be cool if a manufacturer would make one specific for the 4runner. The interior access to your sleeping area will be wonderful. I'm curious about how weather tight it will be. Keep it up!

JasonRedwood, they sell weatherstripping at the local big box stores that would fit that bill. It's 1-2" wide with adhesive on one side and comes in rolls from 3-15 ft (or more). I used it between the tool box and bed rails of my Tacoma. I'm not sure if would be heavy duty enough for your application, but you could check it out for ideas.

I'm thinking something like this:

Thanks for the reply to my PM Tacodoc!
I dont think my reply was sent last night when I wrote back using my iphone.
Not sure if I am going to make it a permanent setup or not yet.

AB1985- Below is Doc's response from my PM to him.

Here is a product similar to what AT uses for their FlipPac installs...

I'd use EPDM rubber (OEM's use this for door seals etc) with copious automotive grade silicone for the irregular areas (sharp corners, gaps, etc). I assume that you'll be mounting that FP permanently. In that case, EPDM rubber on ALL flat surfaces (cab interface, bed rail surfaces) and then I'd run a small thin bead externally especially along the cab interface so that wind/rain is routed away from the EPDM bulb seal - think layered defense. Then, for that interior area that you have shown between the 1 inch aluminum and the interior, I'd cushion/insulate that with some nice fat/wide closed cell foam (EPDM is $$ compared to closed cell foam) to inhibit drafts/chafing etc. Take your time and do a detailed job that will last - taking the shell off to fix what you missed is a PITA so do it once and do it right. And bring that sucker out to the Desert Rendezvous in March so we can take pics!

I have been digging around on Mcmasters.com:) and I think Im going to use a combination of gaskets glued together to fill the space properly. Mcmasters carries 1" square weather stripping that may end up as the neighbor to the aluminum rail, both would be sandwiched between 2x1/8th inch strips. Then an additional "bulb" seal added to the mix to creep into the interior side of the rails.

I hope you get this done in time for the Desert Rendezvous, rumor has is that we're going to have some journalist coverage from some well known organizations... ;)

I would really like to have it done by then... well at least to a presentable state.
Its doable for sure
After the mod I still need to clean the tent and do a torsion bar delete, which shouldn't take more than a day for both.

When I 1st saw this thread I was thinking it was a new product. Sadly I was quickly corrected by seeing what was obviously an older unit. Regardless I really like this idea. Keep up the good work.

I think a flip-pac style soft sided pop top would be amazing. Using the can-back metal frame as the design jumping point. Something that had a hard platform for the roof and a place to sleep of course.
