Can anybody help me out with backspacing? I like the way lofreqjeff's is set up. Planning on getting wheels 15x8 black rocks and tires 33x12.50 BFG KM2's and putting a smaller lift on it. If anybody could help me out I would really appreciate it.

Baker11 - my rims are a 15x8 with a 3.75" backspace, or a 19mm offset depending on who you ask, and they fit perfect without any wheel spacers. I had to do the typical pounding of the pinch weld and a 1" body lift. I also have 1.5" BJ spacers up front and some downey leaf springs in back.

Let me know if you have any questions, I'd be glad to help out in any way I can.

That's exactly what I needed to know I really appreciate it. Mine is the lifted red 85 in the picture above my post. I'm planning on getting rid of the the 5 or 6" lift that is on it and going with a 3".

Rear suspension

4runner brothers! I would like some input on replacing the rear suspension on my 89 4runner.
As it stands now it has 1.5 BJ spacers in the front and as of last weekend it had the zuk mod in the rear. 10" 125lb coils i believe, maybe 12".
Any ways one of the coils ran off while briskly driving down a fire road. At times all 4 wheels may have been off the ground to allow for one of the little fellas to escape. I took the other coil off to even things out. On our way home, filled with camping gear, the rear 31" wheels were hitting the wheel wells on a few ruts.
In the future I plan on adding a IFS long travel kit. Ride height in the front will be 3-4 inches from stock. What recommendations might you guys have for the rear. This 4runner will also have a flip-pac attached to it as well. The camper will weigh about 300lbs or so.
Thanks in advance.

Considering your plans for the front suspension, have you considered Chevy 63" springs for the rear?

Thanks Toyotero. I dont know why the 63's escaped my mind but yeah I will go that route. Just read up on the swap and they seem to be the most versatile. Also I read nothing but positive reviews.

the 63" chevy's are a great way to go. I would suggest them or OME. I have OME all the way around on mine and they do very well.

been looking around and want to take the runner on more trails and explore more but having the 3.0 with original engine never been open at 230xxx miles makes it hard because i dont know what i would do if it broke down a state or two out.. anyways i been wheeling as much as i can with trails in my area. love the snow since its much cooler and easier on the runner imo. i also got into quad riding and mainly going to the dunes at pismo.
looking to keep the IFS and go with a LT kit which maybe sooner than later due to one of the upper control arm bushing, well kinda just fell out lol

I've had a couple of Broncos and fell in love with my Jeep Wrangler until it got totaled a couple of years ago. In the market for another Wrangler I came across my first 1st Gen I bought for my stepson's first vehicle... Now I'm thinking about ditching the replacement Jeep idea and finding another 1st Gen for myself.

Here she is... The boy's first vehicle and I'm jealous!

At least I get to drive it until he goes back to school in the fall... Hopefully I'll find my own by then!

How's about I revive this thread. Here's my rig. '89 SR5, 5SPD, V6, 32/11.5/15 Cooper Discoverer STT, Detroit locker, IPF spot lights, 2" BJ spacers, Downey torsion bars, Downey shackles, Doetsch Tech shocks, s-shaped leaf packs... New paint to come shortly. Working on some custom wood work for the rear along with a canvas cover and a roof rack. I'm also working on locating some 63" leaf packs. Should be about done then... Yeah right!

Here are some crap cell-pics
