2002 Grand Cherokee Overland Questions

A dealer in town just took in a cream puff 2002 GC Overland with 64,000 miles . Any known major problems associated with this year and model GC ?
I'm gonna go this afternoon and check it out but wanted to know what to look for in advance .
I will run the vin # with the local Jeep dealer to see what comes up .
TIA, Nick

Check WJJeeps.com

The main issue is the blend doors for the dual climate control. Check that they work properly and ask if they have confirmation that the blend doors have been repaired.

Overlands are very nice. I have a Laredo. I'd trade my TJ for an Overland in a heatbeat. The quadradrive 4x4 system is nearly as nice as full lockers for mild offroading.

Good luck!

Even if the brlend doors haven't been fixed I'd still consider buying it. There is an aftermarket fix for it for ~$200 plus labour (DIY?).

Overland's got the 4.7 HO (high output) engine. Not sure if it was an option or a by default thing. Some of the maintenance parts for them can be more expensive. I think the HO engine requires super/premium gas as well.

As posted above, spend a few hours on wjjeeps.com and all will become clear.

Well I went and checked it out . Body wise it has a couple of door dings but no big deal . The leather seats are well worn but not ripped .
Underneath the first thing I noticed was on the front axle the outer tube seal leaking bad on the drivers side .
Worth $9000 but not the $12,900 they wanted .
Thanks for the help. I'll just hold out for a LC 100 .

Just want to clarify, it has limited slip front and rear, not lockers.

Not true....

The Limited Slips are built by Eaton and they are fully locked diffs front and rear. As soon as the computer senses slip either axle can lock fully until the computer sense no slippage.

Already talked to the Eaton guys as I was trying to get one for my Grand.

From what I have read, it is not a full locker. Could be wrong though, you seem to have more experience with it.

The WJ does not use a computer controlled differential. It uses the Vari-lok diff which automatically sends torque to the wheel that is spinning. It requires special axle shafts that are not compatible with non-Vari-lok equipped axles. It works very well as long as the tire size remains reasonable. Big tires tend to cause problems. Not a full locker but much more effective than a clutch-type limited slip.

You are correct about the WK diffs. They ARE computer controlled and are essentially full lockers.
