Devil's advocate here, but if you knew the reserve price--in essence, the asking price--would you ever want to pay more?

Would I want to? ... no.

But would I? ... well it really depends on the item. In this case though, I couldn't say, since I have no concept of the reserve, and weather it's even close to reasonable.

I listed a GPS on ebay recently, and my reserve was half of current retail, and at the end of the auction, I received over current retail for the item from the wining bidder. He could have gotten it for my reserve if nobody else bid on it, but other bidders also saw the value of the item, and at the end of the auction I got more than double what I would have been happy taking for it.

The market will dictate the value of an item above its reserve, but it would be helpful to at least have a base point to estimate build costs for this truck. Who knows, maybe the reserve is many thousands over fair market value... at that point, why would I even bother estimating, or wasting time researching?

The truck body was manufactured by Unicell. It's a dry freight model, I believe. http://www.unicell.com/ Don Greene told them not to install a rear rollup door, and where to cut the holes for the door and windows. Don finished out the interior.

No auction winner... that's why when you're selling on ebay, it pays to start at least a little bit close to your reserve, then let the auction go from there.

I know that there were some higher bids on there that never showed up.

Similar thing happened to me this week, someone hacked into an account where I had put a bid and send me a second chance offer. It looked very legit at first...but then I had some fun emailing the guy back until I reported it to Ebay. Haven't heard since...

Interestingly, I just got phished on this transaction. "SteveR" sent an email to my regular inbox offering to sell it to me for $12.4K, including shipping.

Any ideas how a scammer might have found my email address? It did not go through ebay, so perhaps some enterprising crook cross-referenced me between eBay and here???????

I replied that I'd take it but unfortunately he said he is in Austria on business....but can handle the transaction through ebay hahahah!
