2008 fg140

Found a brand new one (still has plastic on the seats) with <100mi on the odometer. Cab and chassis only, $36,000 US.

I'm not ready for the open road yet, my son still has a few more years of school. I figured I could use it for a work truck until the time came to build.

Any thoughts from the assembled masses? Opinions on price or anything else?

A 2008 model diesel will require ultra-low sulfur diesel, which can limit your
options if you're thinking about driving to Mexico and Central America.

If I remember correctly, the 2008 did not include urea injection as part
of the emissions control system. The alternative is a heavier dose of
exhaust gas recirculation, which produces a rough-running engine.
In 2010, Fuso switched to Bluetec urea injection. The Bluetec system
delivers a better running engine and improved fuel economy, along with
lower emissions. Read about Bluetec here

You're absolutely right on that. Except I think Ultra Low-Sulfur Diesel will be making its way across the lands eventually.

I plan on using it as a work truck for 4-5 years, building in the following year and rolling out right after that. I am firmly entrenched in the idea that I should go corner to corner in my own country before I make tracks elsewhere and plan to do just that. Maybe it won't be an issue by then?

I know these FG models are pretty rare, comparatively speaking, do they then command a premium, or are they orphans and go on the clearance shelf?

I (possibly mistakenly) gave my number to a Fuso salesperson who is already chewing on me to stop looking for used and buy a 2010.

If I got some REALLY big paper, could an experienced member create a flowchart for me? These decisions are already invading my sleep.

A 99(?) with only 45k miles with a camper already built on it was posted for sale here recently for only $22k. That's really low miles for a used FG and it would solve the low sulphur problem.

dual purpose ?

hello all

we have an 08 fg and love it. we as well were not quite ready for the open road but decided to get our truck and do a camper for it.

we run our truck as a flatbed work truck for our store, then load our camper on the flatbed for weekend getaways. our plans are to do more and more traveling as we get closer to retire.

our rig has exceeded our expectations so far, we're very happy.

we have some pic's posted on here under camper examples or lehel and laura's camper.

cheers lehel and laura
