2011 Tacoma TRD Suspension Help?

Hello Everyone,

I'm just getting ready to purchase a 2011 Tacoma double cab TRD with auto trans. I want to put a suspension system on right away. I have been researching and researching. I am familiar with ARB OME from my fJ80. It seemed to ride well and was very durable. I have also looked at the ICON suspension system. My concern with ICON is that I live in North East, PA and they use tons of salt in the winter and I'm worry about corrosion. I have also read that you need to rebuild the shocks roughly every 35,000 miles. I plan on using my Tacoma for overland travels out West and upto Alaska. I don't want to have to worry about durability. Can anyone help with their thoughts and experience with the ride and long term durability? I plan on putting on 255 or 285 BFG KM2 tires. Thanks

Both are solid choices. I run OME Dakar heavies w/Nitrochargers on the rear and have had Donahoe (Icon) 2.5 CO's up front for over 60,000 miles without issue.

TACODOC,
I read every page of your build the other night. Very impressive. I hope to use alot of your mods in the build up of my Tacoma. I have not had the chance to ride in a Tacoma with The ICON suspension. How does yours ride? If you were to do things over would you go with OME or ICON or another manufacture?

I would not stop buying Icon because some people say they need to be rebuilt at 35000.
I would say people who beat on there truck and jump it that a 35000 rebuild could be correct. I have Icon in the front and I have All Pro expedition springs for the rear. I like the Allpro springs for my setup very smooth and can hold 500lb no problem. I think that a setup like Tacodoc or a 4WC on the back Ome is a better setup for the load because of the overloads.

Stick with the factory UCAs in PA. With 2-2.5" lift, it will align just fine.

I've still got my Donahoes (ICON). Bought in July '07. One rebuild was necessary last year. Don't know whether to attribute it to the weather or not but the seals did start to leak here in OH. I think they went about 50k before the rebuild was necessary.
They ride better than stock on road. They are a set it and forget it coilover. Whether your truck holds the stock weight up front or not. When I went to an ARB bumper, I did not have to adjust the ride height, nor did the ride change (no winch). But they do cost a fortune. I would buy them again for another vehicle where money is not a concern.
