2013 Land Cruiser arrives

i wonder if an import argument could be made for a stripper 200, if it had the same drive train.

It was really just a bare bones 200. No leather, NAV, wood, V8 or V8TD. I believe the V6 is the same one found in the 4-Runner/Tacoma, but that is just my logical thought and not a confirmed fact.

This whole thread speaks to the issue of Toyota moving the Land Cruiser upmarket in the U.S. and our relative quality of roads.

That's a fact, Jack! That is in fact a GRJ200. There are also GRJ71 (SWB 2door) 76(4door wagon) and 79 (pick-up) Land cruisers out there. The GRJ200 has to be dreadfully slow. I would settle for the GRJ76 myself (conceeding that we're just not getting a diesel here)

Nice 200, I am looking to get one soon, do you have a build thread on your truck, I am wondering about suspension and skid plates etc.
Thanks
Sethro

As a satisfied owner of a well used bloated, rounded, soft, wide, low and soulless 200 series Land Cruiser I'm interested to see the 2013 Cruiser. Since mine has taken us to various trails and roads in Ouray, Silverton, Durango, GWNF, Labrador Highway, GSMTR, Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, Devils Tower, Death Valley and various other State Forests and Parks.

I know its an old thread, but there are plenty of the bare bones 200s here in Afg and I wouldn't mind having one. Anything has to be better than my 120 prado with the gutless LJ diesel....

sethro80,

I have a build thread on Ih8mud, in the 200 series, under the title of "IPOR built 200".

Perhaps

Still, I would take a 70 series over a 200 given the opportunity.

These guys seem to have all of the stripped down models. I could fill my [vehicle] shopping list pretty easy here. I see at least 4-5
vehicles I wouldn't mind owning.

I was visiting friends in the UK this summer and they have a 2008 200 series V8TD and it was a dream to drive. The engine was powerful and efficient, really enjoyed my time in it. Wish it was an option over here.

In Europe the 200 series V8TD 2013 Series has 271hp - the 2011 Modell up has 289hp. That one who is linked above - has only 217hp (single turbo i guess??)

For all who plan to do overlanding stuff with the Diesel - you should consider the 2011 Modell, because the DPF in not active - you can take them away - he isnt managed by an ECU..

Why you dont import the Diesel on by yourself, when he isnt offered in the US? Is it that difficult?

Great Toyota, that's wonderful. Now just bring us a diesel powered, stripped 70-series and we can call it even!

So they can steal sales from their own 4Runner? Why would that make sense?

In Oman, the GX-R 200-Series with the V6 was reported to have cost approximately $30,000 U.S. When I told the guide a 200 in the U.S. was $70K he about had a heart attack.

Theres a difference between leather with all the goodies (including a V8) and a stripped out, cloth V6 truck. Is it $30k more? Probably not but it certainly isnt anywhere close to $30k.

I have seen exactly 2 200 series Cruisers and I live in NoVa. What Toyota needs is to get a few celebritards to drive one in movies and paparazzi photos. Then, like Rover, theyll be in business. Its an issue of advertising and product placement. Not the vehicle itself.

Since the 200 is sold here...could a 200 diesel be imported and registered? Avoiding the 25 year rule?...always wondered that about the 105s

No. Just because one of them is here doesnt mean its legal. The manufacturer has to get each combination approved by the government, spending roughly a million dollars per approval. Just because the model is sold here, doesnt mean that the combination is approved.

ChuckB: Remember there are a few factors there. Cost of vehicles in Oman is subsidized while the cost of anything built overseas gets hit by the overseas light truck tariff in the U.S. And there are more factors beyond that...

Tons of 200 Series here in South Sudan and Northern Uganda. Lots of Range Rover Supercharged, too. People want to be all baller, even if there's not a single paved road in sight.
